Neha powers Manav Sthali to win

New Delhi, August 11
India No 2 Neha Aggarwal proved to be the trump card as Manav Sthali School rode on the strength of her brilliant display to quell the challenge of Hans Raj School 3-1 in their last Group I engagement of the Inter-School Table Tennis Sub-Junior Girls Championship at the Talkatora indoor stadium on Monday.

Results: Neha Aggarwal beat Nupur Kumar 11-5, 11-7, 11-7; Isha Monga b Sanya Sayal 11-4, 11-9, 11-7; Sorvhi Goela lost to Nitika Kumar 12-10, 5-11, 5-11, 10-12 and Neha Aggarwal beat Sanya Sehgal 11-6, 11-7, 11-7. In the cadet girls league, Hansraj Model School took the first position while Sachdeva secured the second position. Hansraj got walkover fron N K Bagrodia while Sachdeva got walkover from St. Cacillia School.

In the sub-junior boys section, Apeejay School, represented by Sarthik Gandhi, Dhruv Arora and Bhanu Chaudhary made the finals and take on Hansraj School. Dhruv Arora won both his matches and Sarthak Gandhi won the other match for Apeejay School.

In the other semi-final matches, Hansraj Model School, represented by Kartik Kukreja, Akash Verma and Kunal Kathuria beat Mount Carmel 3-0.

In other matches, Manav Sthali beat Apeejay 3-0, N K Bagrodia b GHPs, India Gate 3-2, Delhi Public School b Sardar Patel Vidyalaya 3-2 and Sachdeva School b G D Goenka 3-0.

CWC on a roll in Inter-Club TT

Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) were on a roll in the Inter-Club Table Tennis League when their A and B teams entered the quarter-finals. Other teams to qualify for the quarter-finals were FCI, DPS, CWC A, RBI, Hansraj, Khalsa, CWC B and Delhi Audit. FCI will take on Khalsa College, RBI will clash against CWC B, Hans Raj meet Delhi Audit and DPS meet CWC A in the quarter-final matches.

In a thrilling match, CWC B beat Delhi Audit 3-2. Results: Karan SAchdeva lost to Joginder Singh Bisht 7-11, 11-7, 8-11, 3-11; Ashish Duklan lost to Sunal Jain 6-11, 11-6, 11-13, 11-6, 6-11; Abhishek Puri b Vijay Vir Singh 11-4, 10-12, 14-12, 11-6; Ashish Duklan b Joginder Singh Bisht 9-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-8; Karan Sachdeva b Sunal Jain 11-7, 10-12, 15-17, 11-5, 11-9.

In other matches, CWC A b Manav Sthali 3-0, Hansraj b Khalsa College 3-0, Sachdeva b Copper Field 3-1, BHEL got walkover from Intab; N K Bagrodia got walkover from Mount St. Mary.

Motorbike expedition to Ladakh

New Delhi, August 11
A motorbike expedition to Ladakh via Kargil by the Bikers for Integration and Conservation of Environment was flagged off from the Irwin Road Service station by Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Sumitra Mahajan. She also released the expedition commemorator in the presence of chairman of Indian Oil M S Ramachandran, general manager Y Sahai and other senior officials.

Mrs Mahajan said the expedition members will touch the Himalayan ranges where the Indian armed forces had made great sacrifices at the Kargil sector. She said this expedition will be a tribute to the courage, patriotism and resilience of the armed forces. The expedition, called ‘Friendship Overland’ will forge a closer bond with people of those regions, promoting national integrity and spreading the message of peace.

Mr Ramachandran said this expedition will offer the toughest challenge to both men and machine. He also said that the expedition was powered by the undaunted spirit of the team members and servo, IndianOil’s world class lubricants.

The Bikers of Integration and Conservations of Environment endeavours to promote the spirit of adventure, exploration of nature and promotion of ecological consciousness.

Sonepat wrestlers dominate championship

Sonepat wrestlers dominated the two-day Haryana State Taekawando Championship by winning 13 gold, 16 silver and 17 bronze medals. Gurgaon and Rohtak bagged the second and third positions respectively.

In the championship that concluded here last evening, Pooja Malik of Sonepat in girls and Amit Dhul of Gurgaon in boys sections were declared the best wrestlers. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr B. S. Dhillon, gave away the prizes among the winners.

Following were the final results of different sections in different age and weight categories:

Boys: Under-13 (24-30 kg): Sumit (Gurgaon), Ravi (Sonepat), Sandeep Soner (30-36 kg), Sonu (Gurgaon), Neeraj Sonepat, Bhim Kurukshetra (36-42 kg), Pankaj (Gurgaon), Vikas (Sonepat)

Above 42 kg: Gaurav (Sonepat), Dhruv (Panchkula)

Boys 13-18 (52 kg): Amit Dhull (Gurgaon), Vinod (Hissar), Amit (Sonepat) (52-58 kg) Bhavishya (Rohtak) (52-58 kg), Devender Khokhar (Gurgaon)

(70 kg and above): Ashish (Gurgaon), Praveen (Gurgaon)

Boys above 18 years: (Up to 54 kg), Krishan (Sonepat), Lakhan (Sonepat), Rajkumar (Rohtak) (54-63 kg): Satish (Gurgaon), Shiv Kaithal, Anil (Sonepat).

(63-71 kg): Rakesh (Sonepat), Deepak (Rohtak), Dinesh (Sonepat) (75-80 kg)

Girls under 13 (Up to 22 kg) Bhumika (Rohtak)

40 kg and above: Neeru (Sonepat)

Hans Club qualify for Super Six League

Hans Club played their hearts out to score a lone goal victory against Panchkuian in a play-off match of the Group B preliminary league match of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL A Division Football League
Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium on Monday. Hans Club qualified for Super Six League.

Both Hans Club and Panchkuian secured 12 points each from seven matches while Ahbab topped Group B when they collected 14 points to enter the Super Six. Hans and Panchkuian were tied at 12 points, which necessitated the play-off match.

The all-important goal was scored by defender Purshottam Dogra just a minute before close.

In a Group C preliminary league match, Youngmen and Garhwal Heroes played a goalless draw to take one point each in a dull and drab encounter. In Group C, Uttrakhand, Youngmen and Garhwal Heroes were tied on 14 points from six matches.

There will be a play-off match among the three teams to decide the first and second position from Group C.

There will be no match on Tuesday. The play-off matches will be played on Wednesday at the Ambedkar Stadium.

Kshitij, Vivek hit tons

Centuries by opening batsman Kshitij Patni (105 n o, 97b, 4x8, 6x3) and Vivek Malik (101 n o, 97b, 4x10, 6x2) enabled United Delhi Cricket Academy beat Bal Bharti Public School (Pusa Road) in the Friendship Cup Under-17 Cricket match at the Major Dhyan Chand Sports Complex.

Scores: United Delhi Cricket Academy: 253 for 3 in 40 overs (Kshitij Patni 105 n o, Vivek Malik 101 n o, Mayank 2 for 50).

Bal Bharti Public School: 110 all out in 32 overs (Kunal Sanghi 30, 4x6), Varun Tripathi 29, 4x5, Robin Sharma 2 for 10, Rishi Khurana 2 for 27, Roop Maurya 2 for 22).
