General nursing course to be introduced in dist hospital

A three-year course in general nursing and midwifery will be introduced at the district hospitals in Bhiwani, Hisar and Karnal. A spokesman of the Haryana Health Department today informed that applications have been invited from unmarried females, widows or legally separated females who are bonafide residents of Haryana and are desirous of taking admission to these courses commencing from September 2003.

He said in case of general category, the candidates should have passed 10 + 2 from any institution recognised by the Haryana School Education Board.

The candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and the wards of retired or of those who had died in war or rendered disabled or ex-servicemen should have scored a minimum of 45 per cent marks.

The medium of teaching would be English, he added.

Each trainee would be given a monthly stipend of Rs 500 during the training period, which the candidate will have to return in case a candidate withdraws herself or did not complete the course. It would be mandatory for the candidate to stay at the nursing hostel where they would be provided accommodation free of cost.

He said that applications should reach the office of Chief Medical Officer, general hospital, Hisar, Bhiwani or Karnal. The interviews will be conducted at these hospitals on August 27.

AICTE nod to MPharm course in MDU

The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has approved the introduction of MPharm course in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department of Maharshi Dayanand University. The AICTE has sanctioned eight seats for the MPharm course in Industrial Pharmacy - four for general category, three for sponsored and one seat for SC/ST category.

Further, the GATE qualified MPharm students would be getting scholarship of Rs 5,000 per month as also a contingency grant of Rs 5,000 per annum and Rs 10,000 as library grant. Interestingly, this fellowship amount is the highest in northern India in respect of pharmaceutical institutions.

With the approval for the introduction of MPharm course, Maharshi Dayanand University’s Pharmaceutical Sciences Department has become the only pharmaceutical department in Haryana with AICTE approved MPharm programme. The Bachelor of Pharmacy course run by this university is also approved by the AICTE and the Pharmacy Council of India up to 2005.

The Pharmaceutical Sciences Department of the university has also applied for a major project of Rs 1crore to the Union Government’s Department of Science and Technology for consolidation of the infrastructure for the department. The department has research collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. The area of research is chemical computation and industrial pharmacy. One research project with a total grant of Rs 6 lakh and a project for modernisation of laboratories with a total grant of Rs 15 lakh has been sanctioned by the AICTE.

Rs 21.72 lakh given as compensation

As many as 28 cases pertaining to death or injury due to vehicular accidents, under the Motor Vehicles Act, and 283 other cases were decided at the Lok Adalat held at Bhiwani, Siwani and Loharu.

Informing this today, the member secretary of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority, Mr Shekher Dhawan, said that a total compensation amounting to 21.72 lakh was awarded in the cases settled under the Motor Vehicles Act. He said that 22,717 cases of motor vehicle accidents involving a payment of Rs 1,40,02,63,716 as compensation had so far been settled through Lok Adalats. Also, 4.38 lakh cases of other categories had been settled.

He said that 15,196 persons have so far been provided with free legal aid.
