Vivek grounded

Vivek Oberoi WITH the actor being advised rest, four films of his, amounting to Rs 80 crores, will be delayed.

Vivek Oberoi, who injured his left leg in a freak mishap on the sets of Mani Ratnam’s untitled film on Wednesday, will be out of action for three months. This means bad news for producers who have signed him. His under production films work up to approximately Rs 80 crores.

The films to be affected, apart from Mani Ratnam’s, are Sameer Karnik’s Kyon Ho Gaya Na Pyar, Indra Kumar’s Khujli and John Mathew Mathan’s next.

Vivek had to be rushed to the intensive care unit of Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai after he complained of ‘severe, inexplicable pain’ in his foot. According to the doctors treating Oberoi, the actor has suffered serious fractures in the tibia and fibula of his left foot, necessitating complete rest for three months.

According to Vivek’s father, Suresh, ‘Though the doctors have attached an iron rod with screws to his left leg, Vivek has been maintaining his cool. He has been flirting around and joking with the doctors and nurses.’

The actor will take the support of crutches for a few days.

Vivek Replaces Salman

He may be out of action right now. But, Vivek has bagged yet another film, and this time with his favourite co-star and good friend Aishwarya Rai. It transpires that Nandy has approached Vivek to play the role of Bhoothnath, immortalised by the late Guru Dutt. It seems that Aishwarya has convinced Nandy into signing the young man.

It wasn’t long back that Aishwarya had given a statement saying that the ‘Salman chapter’ is closed and done with. So, it came as a surprise when Pritish Nandy announced earlier that he was going to sign Aishwarya in the lead for a remake of the classic, Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam, which had Salman Khan as the male lead.

When Salman was asked about being part of the film recently, he said, ‘Pritish Nandy has talked to me. I am doing a film with him, which one I don’t know.’

It may be recalled that Aishwarya had tried the same tactic with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who wanted to sign both Salman and the actress together. But, the actress recommended Vivek to the director and on being told ‘No’ in no uncertain terms, walked out of the film, saying that she doesn’t want to be associated with any project with Salman in the lead.

Now that Aishwarya has finally had her way with Nandy, Salman is history as far as Nandy is concerned. LMN
