A powerful freeware picture organiser
Raman Mohan

MOST of us use photo organiser software on our PCs, the most popular being ThumbsUp. However, it is a shareware. The limitations thus restrict the software’s full potential. Now you have an excellent freeware called FotoAlbum that is a powerful picture organiser with links to its parent Website. It is a shade bulkier for a freeware, but is nevertheless a must have for every PC. The other freeware helps remove stubborn software from the Add/Remove programs list. This too is useful if you use downloaded shareware often.

FotoAlbum

This is software for your PC that allows you to easily organise, view, print and share digital pictures and videos. With little effort you can retrieve pictures and videos from your digital camera, add them to albums or groups, sync to the FotoTime Website and share them with family or friends. In addition, you can print high quality prints using your own printer or allow to print them and deliver them directly to anyone you wish. FotoAlbum has the ability to organise pictures and videos into unlimited albums and groups (multi-level grouping). It has an enhanced printing feature that includes ability to print multi-picture layouts. With its powerful 2-way syncing with the FotoTime Website sharing pictures has never been easier. It contains an automatic date extraction and powerful date filtering feature. The filtering capability provides complete control over displayed pictures and direct connection with digital cameras and scanners. You can create FotoAlbum CDs (CD’s with your pictures/videos and FotoAlbum software). The FotoTime Website provides: easy storage and sharing of pictures, easy access to the original files, advanced sync process makes managing account effortless from any location, complete control over who can view your pictures (and how long), sophisticated printing of your pictures directly from the Website and multiple mechanisms to upload your pictures including a sophisticated ActiveX uploader. Before you can begin organising and sharing pictures, you must specify a picture folder. The picture folder is where all pictures in the albums are stored. The picture folder can contain sub-folders and pictures can be located anywhere within the picture folder or sub-folders. You should not specify a removable media (drive) for a picture folder. If you want to store your pictures onto a CD, then use the "File->Create FotoAlbum CD" main menu option. The picture folder should be created for the express purpose of holding your pictures. It should not be a high-level folder that contains all sorts of files. For example it should not be "C:\ " or "C:\ program files". Ideally, it should be something like "C:\ my pictures" which only contains pictures. Download from www.fototime.com

Add/Remove 4Good

How many times have you tried to uninstall a program, using Control Panels’ Add/Remove programs, and found out that you just can’t get rid of it? The Add/Remove 4Good utility helps you to remove these stubborn applications. It is intended for Windows users who wish to keep their system clean. Misbehaving shareware can be installed without the fear of having it stuck forever in the Add/Remove list. Add/Remove 4Good will try first to uninstall the application and only later (if necessary) forces the application out of the Add/Remove list. It has a simple yet slick user interface (tray icon) that gets the job done. Download available at www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/0,fid,17624,fileidx,1,00.asp
