EXPERTS think that the closing of eyes is part of the sneeze reflex. It's a reflex, meaning we have no conscious control of sneezes. According to Neil Izenberg of Kidshealth, one sneezes when something is probably irritating or tickling the inside of the nose. Sneezing is the body's way of removing an irritation from inside your nose. Once the inside of the nose feels an irritation, a signal is sent to the sneeze centre, which is a special part in brain. The sneeze centre then sends signals to all muscles: the abdominal muscles, the chest muscles, the diaphragm, muscles controlling the vocal cords, muscles in the back of your throat and the eyelid muscles. These all work together to create the amazingly process called the sneeze. Another amazing fact about sneezing is that sneezing can send tiny particles speeding out of your nose at up to 100 miles per hour!
