Three medical stores sealed after raids

Sonepat, July 10
A 14-member team from Haryana Drugs Controller’s office, headed by Senior Drugs Controller Ashok Jhamb and drug inspector from Karnal Dhoop Singh Dahiya, conducted surprise raids at medical stores being run in private nursing homes and clinics in different parts of the city yesterday. The team sealed three medical stores for serious irregularities.

According to a report, the sealed medical stores were functioning on the premises of Satya Om Nursing Home and Bansal Nursing Home in Sector 14 and Sharma Nursing Home on the Purkhas road.

The officials also seized samples of drugs and a large quantity of physician’s samples stocked in these nursing homes and clinics.

The officials also checked the medical store of Dua Nursing Home on the Sonepat-Bahalgarh road and six other medical stores in various parts of the city and found no irregularity.

The news of the raids spread like wildfire and the owners of medical stores kept their shutters down till the officials left for Chandigarh. Several patients faced inconvenience in getting medicines on account of the closure of the medical stores.

DTC ride to DDCA A-II Division title

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) team emerged champions in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) A-II Division League Championship for the season 2002-2003.

DTC captain Mahesh Sharma and vice-captain Bhuwan Chand Khandpal received the trophy from DDCA president Arun Jaitley and vice-president Chetan Chauhan at the annual awards function at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground.

DTC captain Mahesh Sharma was happy at the team’s performance, which, he said, was the result of hard work and sustained performances. Mahesh, along with Bhuwan Chand, led from the front, through their excellent performances, both with the bat and the ball.

Mahesh Sharma said the team will call on DTC chairman and managing director Amarjeet Singh Sahani next week to present him the trophy on behalf of the team.

Uttaranchal Sports bag cricket title

A strokeful century by Sandeep Gautam (103) and an all-round display by Annirudh Kumar (71 and 3 for 60) helped Uttaranchal Sports beat Delhi Eaglets by 126 runs and annex the second I D Paul Memorial Cricket Tournament title at the Apex Public School ground.

Sandeep Gautam was adjudged the man of the match and best batsman while Saurabh Negi was declared the man of the series.

Uttaranchal received a cash prize of Rs 11,000 while the runners-up pocketed Rs 5,100.

Scores: Uttaranchal Sports: 444 for 8 in 30 overs (Sandeep Gautam 103, Shailesh Kumar 78, Annirudh Kumar 71, Ranjeet Singh 58, Puspender Singh 55, Saurabh Negi 3 for 76, Vishal Jain 3 for 82).

Delhi Eaglets: 318 for 9 in 30 overs (Kamal Kishore 57, Vishal Jain 47, Udat Bhatia 40, Yashpal Singh 40, Annirudh Kumar 3 for 60, Anshuman Kambhoj 3 for 70).

Moonways U-19 Cricket

R P Academy beat Rohtak Road Gymkhana by 11 runs in a league match of the fifth BDM Moonways Under-19 Cricket Tournament at the Gargi College ground.

Scores: R P Academy: 185 in 35 overs (Sachin Rana 65, Rajesh Kumar 54, Harsha Batra 30, Narender Singh 4 for 23, Ankur Garg 3 for 33).

R R Gymkhana: 174 all out in 33.1 overs (Abhinav Bali 67, Manoj Kumar 37, Sachin Rana 4 for 23, Pradeep Sahu 3 for 24).

Varun Mangi stars for ASPM Academy

An all-round performance by Varun Mangi (28 n.o. and 5 for 10) and deadly bowling by Aditya (3 for 12) helped ASPM Cricket Academy, Punjabi Bagh beat Harry Coaching Centre by five wickets in the SPM Under-13 Summer League Cricket Tournament at the Shyama Prasad Mukherji College ground, Punjabi Bagh. Varun Mangi was adjudged the man of the match.

Scores: Harry Coaching Centre: 79 all out in 22.2 overs (Abhimanyu 28, Varun Mangi 5 for 10, Aditya 3 for 12, Goutam Arya 2 for 14).

ASPM Cricket Academy: 83 for 5 in 18 overs (Varun Mangi 28 n.o, Mohit 28, Gagan Kapoor 22, Sidharth 2 for 18).

Cash bonanza for Delhi Under-17 team

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) presented cash prizes of Rs 5,100 to each of the Delhi Under-17 team members, who emerged the national champions defeating Uttar Pradesh in the final to lift the Vijay Merchant Trophy, at the annual awards function held at the DDCA ground. Coach Radhey Shyam Sharma and manager Devinder Chaudhary were presented cash prizes of Rs 11,000 each. Each member of the team also got Rs 6,222 as the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s contribution for winning the trophy.

It was a proud moment for DDCA sports secretary Sunil Dev as the Delhi teams did quite well in national tournaments during the last season. Sunil Dev gave a detailed account of the association’s achievements.

Prizes worth Rs 8 lakh were distributed to the winners and runners-up of the DDCA Hot Weather Cricket Tournament, the DDCA League and Super League.

DDCA president and Union Minister Arun Jaitley gave away the prizes. Vice-presidents C K Khanna, Chetan Chauhan and Suresh K Chopra, general secretary S P Bansal, joint secretary Dr S S Sareen, treasurer Ram Babu Gupta and the members of the executive committee and sports committee were also present.

DDCA presented a cricket bat to each member of the Under-15 and Under-17 inter-school cricket tournament winners and runners-up. Rohtak Road Gymkhana, who won the Hot Weather Tournament, was given a cash award of Rs 40,000 while runners-up Food Corporation of India received Rs 30,000.

Among those who were honoured at the function were former international umpire S K Bansal, manager of the World Cup team for the blind T V Subramaniam and veteran cricketers Dilbagh Singh and Daljeet Saxena.

Sports secretary Sunil Dev said the new stadium being built at the Ferozeshah Kotla will be a state of the art stadium with all the modern facilities. DDCA president Arun Jaitley hoped that the next year’s annual awards function would hopefully be held at the new stadium.

The following teams were awarded cash prizes for emerging winners and runners-up in various divisions:

Super A Division winners: ONGC and Bright Club (Rs 9,500 each). Runners-up: Sonnet and Youngsters (Rs 8,500 each). Division A-I winners: Daryaganj Gym, Young Friends and Delhi Administration (Rs 8,500 each). Runners-up: Inborn Cricketers, Kishan Ganj Gym and Darling (Rs 7,500 each).

Division A-II winners: DTC, Young Cricketers and Delhi Colts (Rs 7,500 each). Runners-up: Essex Farms, Professional Management and Raghubir Willowers (Rs 6,500 each).

Division B winners: Super Star, Lion Kanishka and Delhi Wanderers (Rs 6,500 each); runners-up: Pioneer, Ashoka and City Gym (Rs 5,500 each).

Super A Division winners: Sonnet (Rs 12,000). Runners-up: FCI (Rs 11,000). Division A-I: Lal Bahadur Shastri Club (Rs 10,000). Runners-up: Inborn Cricketers (Rs 9,000).

Division A-II winners: J N Golden (Rs 8,000). Runners-up: Professional Management (Rs 7,000).

Division B winners: Lion Kanishka (Rs 7,000). Runners-up: Three Stars (Rs 6,000).

Tika Ram, CRZ dominate athletic championship

The athletes from Tika Ram Girls Senior Secondary School and CRZ School dominated the three-day athletic championship in the girls and boys sections respectively. Nearly 250 boys and girls participated in the athletic championship, which concluded here last evening.

In the girls section, the best athlete awards in the Under-14 category and Under-16 category went to Monika and Mukesh respectively of Tika Ram Girls Senior Secondary School.

In the Under-18 category, the award for the best athlete went to Manju of Tika Ram, while Kiran of Government Senior Secondary School, Nahra, won the award in the Under-20 category.

In boys section, Vinay of CRZ School (Under-14), Kehar Singh of CRZ (Under-16), Rajesh Saini of CRZ (Under-18) and Vijay Pal of CRA College (Under-20) were declared the best athletes in their respective categories.

The team championship awards for the boys in Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 categories were won by CRZ Senior Secondary School, Sonepat. The award for the Under-20 category went to CRA College.

The Tika Ram Girls Senior Secondary School bagged the team championship awards in Under-14 and Under-18 categories. In the Under-16 category the award was won by the girls from Gannaur.

The Kanya Gurukul Khanpur Kalan was the runners-up in the Under-16 and Under-18 categories. The City Magistrate, Sonepat, Mr Anil Sharma, gave away the prizes to the winners.

Jagjeevanjit bowls Tytler School to victory

A deadly bowling spell of 4 for 21 by Jagjeevanjit Singh and half centuries by Sudhansu Arora (52, 5x4) and Rishabh Jain (50, 2x4) helped J D Tytler School beat R P Cricket Academy by two wickets to win the first Bhavan Cricket Tournament at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School ground.

Jagjeevanjit Singh was adjudged the man of the match while Mukul Dagar got the best batsman award. Puneet Walia was declared the best bowler while the best all-rounder award went to Akshay Chabra.

Scores: R P Academy: 190 for 9 in 30 (Mukul Dagar 40, Vaibhav Rawal 51, Manik Tandon 44, Piyush Jain 3 for 31, Jagjeevanjit Singh 4 for 21, Akshay 2 for 24).

J D Tytler School: 191 for 8 in 28.2 overs (Sudhansu Arora 52, Rishav Jain 50, Akshay 34, Jagjeevanjit Singh 28, Puneet Walia 3 for 21, Harjinder Singh 3 for 27).
