Clinics charge OPD fee on Doctor’s Day
Our Correspondent

Panipat, July 2
Free OPD for general public, as directed by the Panipat chamber of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to mark the Doctor’s Day yesterday, proved futile due to insufficient publicity. While the general public was not even aware of the fact that they would be provided free services, a few doctors even charged fee for OPD services.

This was for the first time that the IMA, Panipat, along with its fellow members, had decided to attend outdoor patients (OPD) in their clinics free on the Doctor’s Day yesterday. As many as 18 to 22 patients per clinic had been attended by the member doctors of the association, according to reports. However, as most of the people were not aware of the free service, the patients paid the consultation fee at several clinics visited by this correspondent. To mark the Doctor’s Day, Additional Deputy Commissioner R. P. Bhardwaj, District Forest Officer D. K. Sinha and IMA president Dr S. K. Chirvi planted saplings at the civil hospital here.
