My friend

My friend I need you,

Please take me by the hand.

Stand by me in hour of need,

Take time to understand.

Take my hand dear friend,

And lead me from this place.

Chase away my doubts and fear,

Wipe these tears on my face.

Friend I can’t stand alone,

I need your hand to hold.

The warmth of your gentle touch.

In world grown so cold.

Please be a friend to me,

And hold me day by day.

With your loving hand in mine,

We will find a way.

Escape

When you have no words

to speak right,

come to Nature, express your plight.

When you have no wings to fly,

Hold the wings of cloud, and reach the sky.

When you feel alone and doom,

Give company to the moon.

When you cannot laugh and Smile,

Look at the swaying flower for a while.

When you want to cry louder,

Listen to the Chirping birds rather.

When you have no peace of mind,

Raise your head, universe is very kind.

When everything is so blue,

Be friendly to the morning dew.

When you have no one to hold your hand and soothe,

Then have a walk in the woods.

When things are beyond your reach,

Then escape to Nature and speak.

—Neelu Bamrah, student of Computer Science. Khalsa College, Amritsar

Nature

The flying crows,

And the squeaking squirrels,

The whirling winds,

And the flag with frills,

Fluttering like the wings of a vulture,

That’s the nature showing its culture.

Down the road there goes a man,

And up in the sky there are clouds forming a band.

Pouring the rain, and throwing the child’s play in vain.

That’s the nature showing its fame.
