Small search engine that acts big
Raman Mohan

WITH Google getting popular day by day for searches on the Web, program writers keep coming up with extremely handy tools to use this search engine. The latest is not only the smallest in size, it is also convenient to use and configurable. It is a must for every user of the Net. The other featured freeware is a popup killer that helps you get rid of annoying popup windows while you are working seriously on the Internet. Since it has three modes of functioning, you can configure it as per your requirements. This is not the case with most other popup killers.

gSearch

This is the world’s smallest Google! It places a small "G" square on your desktop. By simply hovering your mouse over the "G" (or whatever letter you specify it to be), you can quickly access the immense offerings of Google. gSearch can be placed anywhere on the screen, increased or decreased in size, and the colour scheme can be easily changed too. What sets it apart from other search utilities are its extensive preferences. The "G" can be placed anywhere on the screen. It uses new smart tracking technology to determine where the search bar should appear. The colour scheme is fully customisable. The icon can be made larger or smaller. History can be shown with a simple click. You can clear the history whenever you want. It takes up minimal screen space. The search bar isn’t shown until you hover over it. Search bar can automatically minimise after specified number of seconds if nothing is punched in. You can use the "Internet Explorer Override" to force search results in IE, regardless of the default browser. The number of search results is customisable. It’s absolutely free! MyPopupKiller

This utility displays the list of all opened windows of the Web browser and closes unwanted popup and advertising windows. In addition, it can automatically hide internal ads of Kazaa Media Desktop, Download Accelerator (DAP), and Opera browser. MyPopupKiller utility can operate in three different modes. In manual mode MyPopupKiller displays the list of opened windows, and allows easy select and close of the unwanted popup windows. The popup and ad windows are automatically selected, so you can close all of them in a press of a button. In Automatic Mode, MyPopupKiller automatically closes popup and advertising windows, according to what you select in the configuration screen. You can temporarily enable the popups simply by holding Ctrl, Alt, or Shift key (according to the configuration screen). In the Aggressive Mode, it automatically closes all new browser windows, even if they are not recognised as popup or ad. In this mode, you cannot open new browser windows, unless you hold the Ctrl/Alt/Shift key. MyPopupKiller supports the following Web browsers: Internet Explorer: version 5.x and 6.x, Netscape: version 6.x and 7.x, Mozilla and Opera (part support): version 7.x (although it is not really needed because Opera browser has built-in support against popups). It requires Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. This utility has been released as freeware. This utility is a stand-alone executable file. It doesn’t require any installation process or additional .dll. To start using it, just extract all files to a new folder, and run the executable (mpk.exe) file.
