CMCH revives drainage system
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, June 9
The Municipal Corporation in coordination with the Christian Medical College and Hospital has envisaged an ambitious plan to revive the drainage system at the main gate of the CMCH as a preventive measure to check the flooding problem in and around CMCH compound.

The project was inaugurated by Mr Surinder Dawar on Saturday. Considering the CMCH’s role during the two major fire tragedies, Mr Dawar expressed that the approach to the CMCH should be easy.

Mr R.P. Gupta, Sub-Divisional Engineer, Sewerage and Water Supply, Zone A-2, said since 2001, the CMCH authorities and Municipal Corporation had been chalking out the modalities of the scheme in light of technical feasibility. It may be pointed out that in 2001, ground floor, including Casualty and Blood Bank, of the CMCH was inundated by water. The traffic in the surrounding areas was also affected, making the access to the hospital difficult.

Only one sewerage line is there at present. For the past two years, the authorities concerned had been trying to solve the flooding problem. According to the proposal, the existing drains would be cleaned and reactivated. Moreover, another 18-inch sewerage line leading to Isanagri and finally to Budha Nala will be laid down, so that the flood water could be split in two opposite directions, making the flow through drainage quicker. This 12-week project is estimated to cost Rs 8.05 lakh.
