Dream Theme

Dreaming of windows
Vinaya K. Manhas

ALTHOUGH a part of a house or a building, windows and doors generally take up the place of an independent symbol also. As per the Indian thought to be sitting on a window in your dream and seeing a lot of people wandering about under you is not a good dream. You should concentrate on your behaviour and method of your working. Your misdeeds could lead to a lot of blackening of your character. You could face several problems. Should the window be shut then be sure of someone deserting you when you need them most. To see broken windows in your dreams predicts doubts marring your relationships.

As per the western thought, seeing windows in your dreams is to find all the roads to your desires getting shut. Something that you desire most shall not be yours besides your best efforts. To see yourself as sitting on a window is to be a victim of your own errors. To enter a house through a window is to undertake dishonourable means to achieve an honourable purpose. To use a window as a means of escape in your dreams is a forerunner to problems, which shall not get solved easily.

Psychoanalytically, windows portray our perception of the world around us. To be looking inside a window while standing outside is to take a peep into your inner self. To look out is to reflect on the world around us. What we see out is again very important as dream content. To be shutting a window is to refuse to look and accept the reality. We are deceiving ourselves acting like the ostrich that digs his head in the mud in face of danger hoping it to disappear when he cannot see it. Opening the window is a conscious attempt on our side to see the reality, but whether we are able to succeed, or simply see emptiness is another factor. Jumping out of a window is again a portrayal of an escapist tendency within us. To see outside through stained windowpanes is to deceive us or someone else. As per Pamela Ball a leading dream analyst breaking the glass of a window could also portray our first sexual experience. A woman of 43 would often dream of sitting at a window and keep seeing the world outside. Sometimes it would be people, sometimes vehicles, and sometimes just the sky. The dreams portray lack of activity in the person's life. The dreams content keep changing but the main symbol that of the window remains the same. Moreover, there is lack of emotionalism which goes with the physical aspect of depression.
