Dahiya, Sodhi star in Airlines’ victory

Internationals Vijay Dahiya (76) and Reetender Singh Sodhi (27 and 4 for 37) played their parts well to help defending champions Indian Airlines beat Bihar Cricket Association by 69 runs in the opening match of the 7th Lala Hari Ram Aggarwal Memorial Day-Night Cricket Tournament at the Karnail Singh Stadium on Sunday.

Airlines skipper Vijay Dahiya won the toss and elected to bat. He himself led the way with a dashing knock, and Ravneet Ricky, Munish Sharma and Reetender Sodhi pitched in with useful knocks.

Dahiya’s entertaining 76 camme off just 40 balls with ten boundaries and three sixes while Punjab Ranji Trophy player Ravneet Ricky hit a solid 47 with six fours and two sixes.

Airlines amassed 246 in 40 overs, and then dismissed Bihar Cricket Association for 177 in 25.5 overs. Reetender Sodhi, who wrecked Bihar, was adjudged the man of the match.

The tournament was inaugurated by Union Minister Sahib Singh Verma. BJP leader Shanti Desai and president of the tournament committee Ashok Aggarwal were also present.

Scores: Indian Airlines: 246 all out in 30 overs (Vijay Dahiya 76, Ravneet Ricky 47, Munish Sharma 34, Reetender Sodhi 27, Amrender Singh 4 for 33, Santosh Singh 2 for 4).

Bihar Cricket Association: 177 all out in 25.5 overs (C M Jha 43, Ratan Kumar 21, Keshav Kumar 20, Reetender Sodhi 4 for 37, Sandeep Sawal 4 for 40, Rajat Bhatia 2 for 35).

ONGC lift Goswami Cricket Trophy

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) trounced Sonnet Club by six wickets to regain the Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial Cricket Tournament trophy after a gap of three years at the Khalsa College ground on Sunday.

ONGC skipper Gagan Khoda won the toss and asked Sonnet Club to bat first. Sonnet struggled to make 187 for the loss of eight wickets in 40 overs with Saket Bhatia top-scoring (69, 6x4). In fact, but for the 58-run fourth-wicket stand between Saket Bhatia and Salil Oberoi, Sonnet would have been in a worse plight.

In reply, ONGC made the required total for the loss of four wickets in 38 overs. Sandeep Sharma cracked a brilliant 82, studded with nine fours and one six off 75 balls while Mohd Kaif and Amit Sharma scored 34 and 35 respectively.

Kaif and Sandeep Sharma put on 93 runs for the second wickets in just 17 overs to put ONGC on the road to victory.

Delhi Transport Minister Ajay Maken distributed the prizes. Sandeep Sharma was named the man of the match while the best all-rounder prize went to Salil Oberoi. Mohd Kaif was adjudged the best batsman of the tournament. Deepak Joon got the best bowler award.

Pusa Youngsters win

New Delhi, May 26
An unbeaten 64 by Naresh Kumar and deadly bowling by medium-pacer Jitender Solanki (3 for 25) and Lalit Anand (2 for 34) helped Pusa Youngsters beat Delhi Wonders by nine wickets in the DDCA Hot Weather Cricket Tournament at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground.

Put into bat, Delhi Wonders were bundled out for 115 in 30.4 overs. In reply, Pusa Youngsters raced to the victory target in 17.4 overs. Naresh Kumar and Mohd Rashid added 104 runs for the second wicket to make things easy for Pusa Youngsters.

The tournament was inaugurated by former Test player Chetan Chauhan and DDCA sports secretary Sunil Dev. Scores: Delhi Wonders: 115 all out in 30.4 overs (Rameez Niyamat 34, Jitender Solanki 3 for 25, Lalit Anand 3 for 34, Savit Chaudhary 2 for 21).

Pusa Youngsters: 116 for 1 in 17.4 overs (Naresh Kumar 64 n o, Mohd Rashid 34 n o).

PNB, Delhi Admn win in DSA League

New Delhi, May 26
Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Delhi Administration scored convincing victories in the Delhi Soccer Association Institutional League at the Ambedkar Stadium on Monday.

In a Group B match of Senior Division, PNB edged past Food Corporation of India (Hq) 4-3. Naveen Parmer scored a fine hattrick for FCI, but it went in vain as PNB scored four goals through Bhupinder Thakur (2), Deepu Lama and Biren Metei.

In an A Division match in Group B, Delhi Administration beat All India Institute of Medical Sciences 2-0. Rajeev Bhalla scored both the goals.

Tuesday’s matches: DTC vs RBI (4 p m); Zakir Hussain College vs Urban Development (5.15 p m)— Ambedkar Stadium.

ONGC enter quarter-final

New Delhi, May 26
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation beat Karma by 64 runs to enter the quarter-final of the 27th Lala Raghubir Singh Cricket Tournament at the Modern School ground, Barakhamba Road.

Scores: ONGC: 286 for 6 in 40 overs (Sandeep Sharma 65, Amit Sharma 53, Gagan Khoda 49, Rizwan Samshad 34, Sunil Joshi 29, Puru Singh 3 for 54).

Karma: 222 all out in 36.5 overs (Paras Dogra 57, Rajesh Kumar 39, Rohit Jhalani 36, H Dogra 31, Rahul Sanghvi 3 for 44, Sunil Joshi 3 for 32). A Sharma was named the man of the match.

Encroachers made to give up 30 acres of land

Sonepat, May 26
The Gohana district administration got 30 acres of Panchayat land released from authorised occupation of 16 persons in village Bidhal yesterday.
As a part of its anti-encroachment drive, a demolition squad led by the BDPO Gohana, police force, labourers and a JCB reached the village last evening and for the land released. However, they failed to remove encroachment on another 10 acres following stay orders by the court.

According to information available, this land was under unauthorised encroachment for the last 35 years. It was After receiving a complaint from the village Sarpanch

Kartar Singh Malik that the administration got into action. Though the administrative action was resented, the officials Continued with the demolition drive and demolished ‘pucca’ construction of rooms and tubewells and also destroyed standing crops of jowar and sugarcane from the occupied fields.

After removing unauthorised occupation, the possession of released land was handed over to the village panchayat. OC
