Dream Theme

Dreaming of rabbits
Vinaya K. Manhas

THE rabbit is a gentle animal. It is generally kept as a pet and as such is not thought of with fear, as most other animals are.

As per Indian thought, to see a rabbit in your dreams is a good omen. It means that you shall do well in your business or profession. The evil plans of your enemies shall not be able to do any harm to you. You shall emerge the winner in whatever you do. Even your family shall prosper. Should see several rabbits together then it means that your friends shall prove to be faithful. But if you see a dog or any other animal chasing a rabbit then you are warned to be on your guard. It indicates that a powerful enemy is conniving against you. There are chances that you might fall a prey to his evil designs. But if you have patience and courage and act with intelligence then you shall manage to come out of it safely.

As per western thought, to see a rabbit in your dreams foretells a favourable turn in your situation, and that shall bring you a lot of happiness. Should you see a white rabbit then it denotes faithfulness from your spouse or lover. Should you see the rabbits frolicking around then it foretells joy for your children. For childless couples, such a dream foretells childbirth. Should you dream of a rabbit running away from your grasp, it means that you stand to lose a valuable possession. If you see yourself capturing a rabbit, then it means that any venture you undertake shall meet with success. A dead hare foretells the death of a near and dear one. Should you see yourself hunting hares then it means that you shall have to fight for your rights.

Psychoanalytically speaking, a dream of rabbits can mean one of two things. It is connected to fertility as well as to a frisky and inconsistent aspect of your personality. A white rabbit is also associated with spirituality.

A 37-year-old woman would often see baby rabbits frisking about in her house. She and her family members would walk very carefully so as not to stamp any of them. Then she would open a room and find dead baby rabbits inside. She would look behind to ascertain that the dead rabbits were not the ones that were running about in her house, but she would not be able to see any of them. She would not be able to understand how rabbits that were frisking a moment ago could be lying dead in a room that was closed. The feelings of fear of killing the rabbits and sorrow at seeing them dead were pretty strong during the dream. The strong emotions in the dream denote insecurity and fear on the part of the woman for the welfare of someone in the family.
