Haryana annex Veterans Cricket Trophy

New Delhi, May 18
M P Singh cracked a dashing 86 and Vishal Singh played an all-round role (36 and 2 for 29) to help Haryana beat Vidarbha by 47 runs to annex the fifth National Inter-State Veterans Cricket Championship at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground on Sunday.

Haryana captain Rakesh Jolly won the toss and opted to bat first to escape the heat. It proved to be a sensible decision, as the Haryana batsmen, led by M P Singh, put the Vidarbha bowling to the sword to hoist 221 for 8 in 40 overs. M P Singh’s efforts were supplemented by Vishal Singh, Mahesh Sharma and R P Singh with useful contributions. Vidarbha, batting in the searing heat, could make only 174 for 6 in 40 overs, despite a sedate, unbeaten knock of 60 by Sameer Gujar and 35 by Manoj Gogte. Rajender Madan and Vishal Singh claimed two wickets each.

M P Singh was adjudged the man of the match while Praveen Hingnikar was named the man of the series. Lt Governor of Delhi Vijay Kapoor gave away the prizes.

Scores: Haryana: 221 for 8 in 40 overs (M P Singh 86, Vishal Singh 36, Mahesh Sharma 20, R P Singh 20, Vinod Gogte 2 for 34, Bharat Thakre 2 for 38, Hemant Wasu 2 or 39).

Vidarbha: 174 for 6 in 40 overs (Sameer Gujar 60 n o, Manoj Gogte 35, Rajender Madan 2 for 26, Vishal Singh 2 for 29).

K N Colts beat Sunheri Club, maintain 
winning streak

K N Colts beat Sunheri Club by 110 runs in a Group A League match of the Rajiv Gandhi Smriti North Delhi Cricket League at the Mohan Meakins ground. This was K N Colts’ fourth successive victory to log 16 points.

K N Colts won the toss and opted to bat, but made a disastrous beginning, losing five wickets for 124 runs.

Then Harish Pandey and Dinesh Rai joined hands to repair the damage by putting on 93 runs for the sixth wicket to enable K N Colts score 221 for six wickets in 35 overs.

Harish Pandey hit an unbeaten 63, embellished with four fours and one six while Dinesh Rai scored 52 with the help of seven fours and two sixes.

And then Arun Rawat produced deadly left-arm spin bowling to crush the Sunheri Club batting lineup with a dream haul of five wickets for 16 runs. Sunheri Club crashed out for 111 in 17.2 overs.

Gaurav, Karandeep shine in u-15 cricket

An unbeaten knock of 75 by Gaurav Upadhyay and deadly bowling of 3 for 14 by Karan Deep Singh helped Blues beat St Marks School by eight wickets in a league match of the DDCA Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground.

Scores: St. Marks: 121 all out in 42 overs (Abhishek Sharma 27, Raghav Ankush 3 for 14, Karandeep Singh 2 for 26).

Blues: 125 for 2 in 18.5 overs (Gaurav Upadhayay 75 n o, Amritoze Singh 36 n o).

Madhav Rao Scindia cricket

The first Madhav Rao Scindia Memorial Cricket Tournament will be organised by Hind Club at the Government Senior Secondary School ground, Andrews Ganj, from May 24.

Entries close with S S Mehra or V S Rawat at M-3/4, Police Colony, Andrews Ganj.

Goswami Club lift Katyal Trophy

Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial Cricket Tournament Organising Committee XI beat Delhi Sports Journalists’ Association (DSJA) by 15 runs to lift the Dewan Chaman Lal Katyal Memorial Trophy at the Khalsa College ground on Sunday.

Batting first, Goswami Club scored 187 for 5 in 25 overs with the help of fine batting performances by Rajinder Singh (38, 4x4) and Davinder Singh (55, 9x4). In reply, DSJA, after a promising start when they scored 129 for one wicket, folded up for 172 for six wickets in 25 overs.

Scores: Goswami Ganesh Dutt Club: 187 for 5 in 25 overs (Rajinder Singh retd 38, Davinder Singh retd 55, Tony Malhotra 17, Gaurav Sareen 23, 5x4, Mohinder Kohli 10 n o, Ravi 10 n o, Gopal 3 for 37).

DSJA: 172 for 6 in 25 overs (G S Vivek run out 82, 13x4, 64b; Vijay Kumar 36 n o, 4x4, 35b).

On Monday, Oil and Natural Gas Commission will take on Food Corporation of India in the last quarter-final match of the Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial Cricket Tournament.

St. Mary’s, Columba’s enter semi-finals

Mount St. Mary’s and St. Columba’s School A sailed into the semi-finals of the third Ambuja Cup Five-A-Side Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday.
In the first quarter-final match, St. Mary’s School trounced St. Columba’s B team 7-1 to storm into the semi-final. Sham Andrady (3), Pradeep Gurjar (2), Aurnob Godinho and Aditya Singh while Darru reduced the margin for Columba’s.

In the second quarter-final tie, St. Columba’s A beat DDA Academy 3-1. Cedric Robinson scored all the three goals for Columba’s while Kshitiz got the consolation goal for DDA Academy.

In other matches, International Society Football School beat Frank Anthony School B team 3-2. Dievkrat scored two goals and Emal scored one for International Society while Daman scored both the goals for Frank Anthony.

DAV School trounced St. Columba’s 14-1. The highlight of the match was six goals by Sardeep Chahal while Yashpal scored five. Himanshu and Jagpal accounted for the other goals.

Monday’s fixtures: St. Columba’s B vs DDA B (3.15); St. Columba’s C vs DDA D (3.45 p m); Media B vs Institute B (4.30 p m); Media A vs Institute A (5.15 pm)—Ambedkar Stadium.
