Asha Bhonsle is on song
ASHA Bhonsle, a younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar, is the most respectable name in the Indian cine music industry. She was born on September 8, 1933. In April 1942 after the death of her father, Dinath Mangeshkar, her family moved from Pune to Kolhapur but ultimately settled in Mumbai. Asha sang her first film song for the Marathi film, Majha Bal, when she was just 10 years old. She started her career in 1958 when she sang the songs for the film, Lajwanti, and has never looked back since. She has been dominating the Hindi film industry since the last four decades. Asha has sung in almost every Indian language, including Bengali, in which she rendered Rabindra Sangeet, the songs of Tagore. She has also sung in Russian and has to her credit a chorus song with rap artists, Baba Sehgal and Boy George. Her most popular songs include Aankhon se jo utri hai dil mein in Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon to Yeh hai reshmi zulfon ka andhera in Mere Sanam, Aaiye meherban from the movie, Howrah Bridge, Mera kuch saman tumhare paas pada hai from Ijaazat. Asha Bhonsle has also done remixes and ghazals. She had sung songs for many films. Some of the films that are popular for the songs are Barsaat Ki Raat, Dil Deke Dekho, Hum Dono, Kashmir Ki Kali, Caravan, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Yaadon Ki Baraat, Kashmir Ki Kali, Umrao Jaan, Kati Patang, Sadma, Thakshak, Taal, Pyar To Hona Hi Tha, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Rangeela. She received many awards for her songs. Besides Filmfare Awards, Asha has bagged two best national singer awards — one in 1981 (film Umrao Jaan) and other in 1986 (film Ijaazat). She has also bagged many special awards like Nightingale of Asia Award in 1987, Lata Mangeshkar Award in 1989 and Screen Videocon Award in 1997 for Janam Samjha Karo. Asha Bhonsle also received 32nd Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which is the highest award in cinema. Asha Bhonsle recently launched a restaurant titled ‘Asha’s,’ at Pyramids in Wafi City, Dubai. This restaurant, which will offer her personal and favourite recipes, is the first one of the chain of restaurants planned in India and overseas.
