Satyender hits ton for FCI

New Delhi, May 6
A spitfire century by Satyender Yadav (117, 13x4, 118) was the highlight of Food Corporation of India’s 19-run victory against Youngster Club in the Goswami Ganesh Dutt Cricket Tournament at the Khalsa College ground on Tuesday.

FCI, electing to bat, hoisted a handsome total of 273 for 8 in 40 overs, mainly on the strength of the electrifying knock of Satyender. Satyender and Rajinder Bisht put on 75 runs for the opening wicket in 10.4 overs. Dhamanjit Singh (38, 4x4, 36b), Saurabh Virmani (22, 4x4, 13b) and Sumit Narwal (29, 5x4, 1x6, 16) were the main run-makers. Though FCI lost four wickets in the space of 38 runs, between the score of 181 and 219, they recovered to post a good total.

In reply, Youngsters got off to a disastrous start, losing the first four wickets of Preetpal (17), Naresh (0), Sanjeev Rana (5) and Manjeet Rajput (18) for a total of 58 runs. Then Deepak Sharma (54, 6x4, 51b) and Jitender Solanki (47, 4x4, 1x6, 41b) played a long innings to repair the damage and give a close chase to the FCI total, before the team ended up at 254 for 8 in 40 overs.

Surender shines in Shera cricket

A remarkable all-round display by Surender Dayma (5 for 43 and 114, 8x4, 3x6) powered Air Sahara to an eight-wicket victory against Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in the 12th Shera Pandit Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Mohan Meakins ground. Sahara entered the semi-final and Dayma received the man of the match award for his fine performance.

Scores: MCD: 213 for 7 in 40 overs (Dharamveer Baniwal 71, Pankaj Malik 37, Harish Kumar 34, Surender Dayma 5 for 43).

Air Sahara: 214 for 2 in 36.3 overs (Surender Dayma 114 n o, Deepak Bhatnagar 38, Ashish Sharma 43 n o, Suresh Baniwal 2 for 55).

Dogra in semis

East Point Sumeet Dogra Academy beat defending champions Abhay Ram Gymkhana by 15 runs and entered the semi-final of the fourth BDM Cup Cricket Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium ground. Manu Kumar, who hit an unbeaten 45, was named the man of the match.

A quickfire knock of 79, studded with three sixes and 12 fours off 27 balls, by Sartaj Chawla and a deadly spell of 4 for 24 by Sanam Chawla helped Red Star Club beat Bharat Nagar by 18 runs in a triangular series Champion Cup Cricket Tournament at the Ashok Vihar ground.

Scores: Red Star Club: 263 for 8 in 30 overs (Sartaj Chawla 79 n o, Tarun Chadha 40, Nitin Berwa 38, Mukesh 34, Gaurav 2 for 42, Naveen 2 for 38).

Punjab nose out Delhi, qualify for final round

New Delhi, May 6
Punjab defeated Delhi 5-4 in sudden death tie-breaker in the final of the Under-21 National Football Championship (North Zone qualification round) held at Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, according to information available in Delhi.

After sharing two goals at the end of regulation play, the tie-breaker rule was enforced, and Punjab prevailed converting four kicks while Delhi could make use of only two spot kicks. Delhi forged ahead in the fifth minute through Bijender whose shot from 20 yards zoomed into the net while Punjab scored the equaliser in the 21st minute through Parminder.

Punjab qualified for the final round of the National Under-19 Championship for the Dutta Ray Trophy, to be held at Ballia, from May 9.

AIIMS annex Rajdhani Cup title

A dashing half century by Sanjay Kumar and a deadly spell of 4 for 31 by left-arm spinner Vijay Arya helped All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) beat hosts Najafgarh Sports Club by six wickets and annex the Rajdhani Cup Cricket Tournament at the Najafgarh Sports Complex ground.

Sanjay Kumar was named the man of the match while the best batsman award went to Dhiraj Sharma. Vijay Arya and Bharat Rishi were adjudged as the best bowler and man of the series, respectively.

Scores: Najafgarh Sports Club: 183 all out in 35 overs (Rishi Bohar 44, Dhiraj Sharma 44, Bharat Rishi 36, Vijay Arya 4 for 31).

Kapil to champion children’s cause

Former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev was Monday formally inducted as the Grand Ambassador for Street and Working Children, associated with Prayas. Kapil interacted with the children at the Prayas Institute of Juvenile Justice.

Prayas represents the issues and concerns of the underprivileged and marginalised children. Mr Amod Kanth, general secretary of Prayas, felt that Kapil’s association with the organisation will give an impetus to take forward the issues of children at the national and international level.

Syndicate Bank lose to Three Star

New Delhi: Despite fine knocks by Bhola Shankar and Ravi Dhingra, Syndicate Bank lost to Three Star Club by ten wickets and the latter entered the final of the DDCA B Division Super League match at the Ramjas ground.

Scores: Syndicate Bank (first innings): 206 all out in 54 overs (Ravi Dhingra 41 n o, Bhola Shankar 31, Rajesh Raina 30, Rajesh Rana 5 for 21). Second innings: 148 all out in 30 overs (Rajesh Raina 43 n o, Ravi Dhingra 32 n o, Manish Singh 4 for 13).
