Teachers flay vigilance raids on schools
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, May 6
Condemning the raids by the Vigilance Bureau in schools on last Friday, a joint meeting of presidents and general secretaries of eight unions of primary school teachers was held here today.

Stating this, Mr Piara Singh Dhillon, president of the Government Primary Teachers Association, urged Mr Khushal Behl, Education Minister, Punjab, to assure that such raids are not conducted in future.

The members also demanded to fill 16,000 vacant posts of teacher in primary schools of the state on regular basis and to change the policy of the government to recruit the school teachers on contract basis.

Mr Dhillon said it was also decided to urge the minister to start the promotion of primary teachers as Block Primary Education Officers against the vacant posts because the administrative work of the offices suffered seriously.

They unanimously decided to stage a dharna in front of the office of the DPI (Primary) at Chandigarh on May 13 to protest against the new education policy of the government to replace primary directorate with the elementary directorate.

They apprehended that the change would result in blocking of opportunities for them and their promotion channel and prospects.
