Drug addicts a burden on society: doc

‘‘Use of drugs not only harms a person physically and financially but an addict is a burden on society.’’ These were the remarks of Dr Pushpinder Singh of Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital this morning at a drug awareness programme organised by JC Manvinder S. Kataria, project convener, Ludhiana City Jaycees.

The programme was organised at GMT Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar by pass, Ludhiana, under the chairmanship of Mr Jasminder Singh.

Addressing around 250 students of class VIII to plus two level Dr Pushpinder Singh said drugs resulted in untimely and painful death. An addict not only loses his wealth or health but also loses his character. He loses the trust of his family, friends and business associates.

He stressed upon the students to remain away from the drugs. Speaking on the occasion Mr Jasminder Singh said that the students can help in curbing the menace of drugs abuse Mr Manvinder Kataria, while congratulating the Bihar government for banning all kinds of pan masalas, appealed to the Punjab government to ban the same in Punjab.

He told students and staff members that Ludhiana city Jaycees were committed to the cause and distributing a drugs awareness CD free of cost. Mr Kashmir Singh, director of the school, asked the students to make others aware of the ill-effects of taking drugs. The principal and the director of the school were presented a CD on drugs awareness developed by Dr Pushpinder Singh in association with Ludhiana City Jaycees.
