Dream Theme

Dreaming of being angry
Vinaya K. Manhas

DREAMS of being angry or seeing someone else angry are fairly common. Anger, in dreams, is manifested through actions.

As per Indian thought, to see yourself as getting angry at someone else in your dreams is a good omen. The person with whom you get angry shall prove to be a good friend. If, on the contrary, you see someone else getting angry with you in your dreams then too it is a good omen because it means that that person has your best interests at heart, and genuinely wants to see you happy.

As per western thought, dreaming of anger means that serious trials and tribulations are around the corner. You may also face disappointment in affairs of the heart. Relationships may go through a rough patch and enemies may succeed in their endeavour to destroy your character and reputation. Dreaming that near and dear ones are angry with you while you do not seem to lose your composure, foretells that you shall overcome all resistance and opposition. On the contrary, such a dream means that the people who oppose you shall turn out to be lifelong friends when you succeed in winning their good opinion.

Psychoanalytically speaking, our passions and emotions find an expression in dreams. We are often unable to openly express emotions that are distressing to us. These are expressed in our dreams through some symbol or the other. Anger need not necessarily be expressed through violence or aggression. It can also be expressed in other ways, such as through passion. Such dreams basically give a clue about the kind of behaviour we are looking forward to in our daily lives.

A 32-year-old woman would often dream of aggressive and violent sexual acts, although in real life she could not recall undergoing any such experience. She put her having this dream to latent a desire within her for aggressive sex. She couldn’t have been further from the truth. The dream symbolised her anger and desire to be violent towards her husband. This basically stemmed from her feelings of anger and revulsion towards their love making, as she completely abhorred the act.
