Ganga Ram Hospital Founder’s Day on April 13

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is celebrating its 49th Founder’s Day on the April 13. The hospital, which was inaugurated by late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, will organise cultural events and an annual oratory programme to mark the occasion.

While renowned scientist Padma Vibhushan Prof M. G. K. Menon will be the chief guest, Padma Bhushan Dr J. S. Bajaj will deliver a lecture on ‘Emerging epidemic of obesity and diabetes – connectivity and consequences’.

The hospital runs free OPD in all branches of medicine and has 200 subsidised beds providing quality medical care to the patients. The hospital is providing care in 40 specialities and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like interventional cardiology, open-heart surgery and minimal invasive surgery.

A 24-hours free casualty and mobile health service is also provided for the slum residents. The hospital also holds the distinction of having a full-fledged department of academics and conducts DNB courses in 21 general and super speciality disciplines. Regular teaching workshops and medical updates are also conducted.

Mahesh guides Youngsters to final in SAIL Trophy

A responsible unbeaten knock of 87, laced with seven boundaries, by Mahesh Rawat helped Youngsters upset star-studded Indian Airlines by four wickets and move into the final of the 13th SAIL Trophy Cricket Tournament at the Mohan Meakins ground, Mohan Nagar. Mahesh Rawat was named the man of the match.

Indian Airlines won the toss and elected to bat. With the help of a fine 85, studded with four boundaries and three sixes, scored by Rajat Bhatia, Indian Airlines managed to make 198 for 8 in 40 overs. Rajat Bhatia also took three wickets for 25 runs, but his fine display went in vain as Youngsters packed too many guns to reach the victory target quite comfortably.

In reply, Rajinder Bisht (62, 5x4) and Mahesh Rawat (87 n.o, 7x4) put on 81 runs for the third wicket after Youngsters struggled at 40 for two wickets. Youngsters scored 200 for six wickets in 39.3 overs to record a convincing victory.

Scores: Indian Airlines: 198 for 8 in 40 overs (Rajat Bhatia 85, 4x4, 3x6; Ravneet Ricky 66, 8x4; R R Parida 20, Joginder 3 for 28, Mrinal Saini 2 for 29, Rajinder Bisht for 11, Vivek Khurana 1 for 43).

Amardeep stars in Gush Club’s win

An all-round performance by Amardeep (3 for 20 and 32) enabled Gush Club defeat Inborn Cricketers by four wickets and entered the pre-quarter-final of the 13th All-India Om Nath Sood Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Harchand Singh Longowal Sports Complex, Khalsa College ground, on Wednesday.

Amardeep was named the Pepsi man of the match, and the award was presented to him by chief guest Tony Malhotra.

Scores: Inborn Cricketers: 163 in 39.3 overs (Vishal Sharma 41, Vishal Tyagi 28, Rohit Jagota 24, Amardeep 3 for 20, Ankur Julka 2 for 30, Aprajit Singh 2 for 42).

Delhi umpires for Ranji semis

New Delhi, April 9
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Delhi umpires K Hariharan and Devendra Sharma for the Ranji Trophy semi-final match between Baroda and Mumbai, to be played at Baroda from April 25. Delhi and District Cricket Association vice-president C K Khanna said former international umpire Ram Babu Gupta has been appointed as the match referee for the Under-25 A teams’ knock-out matches to be played in Bangalore from April 16 to 18 and 20 to 22.

Volleyball coaching camp

The New Delhi YMCA, under the guidance of the Delhi Volleyball Association, will organise a coaching for men and women at the New Delhi YMCA court from Thursday. Interested players should report at the New Delhi YMCA.

Hutch rout Churchill

Hutch trounced Churchill India by ten wickets in the Reebok Cricket Tournament. Viraat Verma, who took four wickets, was named the man of the match. Bharat National Academy storm into semis

Sameer Khurana’s all-round show (30 and 4 for 48) and a devastating bowling performance by Rahul Pandey (4 for 21) enabled the Bharat National Cricket Academy (BNCA) defeat Delhi Public School, Ghaziabad by 65 runs and entered the semi-final of the first All-India GMCA Under-14 Cricket Tournament at the Nehru Stadium in Ghaziabad. Sameer was declared the man of the match.

Scores: BNCA: 218 for 8 in 40 overs (Sahil Kher 69, Sameer Khurana 30, Saurabh Nischal 34, Rahul Gaddi 3 for 42).

DPS, Ghaziabad: 153 all out in 38.3 overs (Abhinav Singh 59, Varun Puri 36, Sameer Khurana 4 for 48, Rahul Pandey 4 for 21).

Anukul, Shiv deadly

16 players recommended for monthly stipend

Campus Sports Committee (Sports Stipends Award Sub Committee) of the M.D. University has recommended the names of sixteen players for monthly stipends, who brought laurels during the session 2002-2003.

In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Dr N.K.Garg, Dean, Students Welfare and Secretary, Campus Sports Committee, the following names were recommended: Suman, Neelam, Parvinder, Sanjay Sharma, Sombir, Parmod, Savita Nandal, Sombir Singh, Monish Hooda, Kavita, Sudesh, Sidharth Batra, Ankur, Sandeep Kaur, Urmila and Peeyush.

The stipends include an amount ranging between Rs 50 per month to Rs 100 per month.
