Dreaming of scissors

DREAMS of scissors are generally considered to be threatening but in some cases it can be a mere object, such as if you dream of looking for a pair of scissor, or of cutting a plant or a piece cloth with scissors.

According to Indian thought, should a young girl see scissors in her dreams, it is an indication of a bright future. She shall soon be blessed with a good marriage. On the contrary, should a married person see such a dream then it is an ill omen for it means that one’s character may be besmirched. One should be very careful after such a dream. Such a dream may also indicate a disruption in the harmony of your family. If you dream of breaking a pair of scissors then too you are warned to be prepared for disharmony in the family. The tension at home could be such that it could lead to a break-up of familial relations.

As per western thought, to dream of scissors is unlucky as it means that spouses shall lose trust in each other, and quarrels shall surface. Even your business and professional front shall suffer. To see scissors being sharpened denotes that you shall have to do something that you do not want to, yet however repulsive it might be for you, you will have to perform the job. Should you dream of losing a pair of scissors it means that you shall succeed in escaping tasks that seem unpleasant to you.

Psychoanalytically speaking, dreams of scissors denote the need for us to shape up our lives. We need to let go of certain aspects of our past that are needlessly interfering with our present affairs, such as relationships that are over, unknown fears, old emotional traumas, etc. Should we see ourselves attempting to cut something with scissors but are unable to do so as it is blunt, then it is an indication for us to restrain our tendency to be blunt as it is, in all probability, hurting other people. Dreams of sharp scissors can be similarly interpreted as in such cases sharp scissors indicate our sharp tongue.

A 17-year-old boy would often dream of a man with a huge pair of scissors coming after him. He would keep snapping it and sometimes succeed in snipping off his clothes. Considering the age and the sex of the dreamer, it seems more or less a dream of castration. Although he could not identify the man coming after him, the man in all probability represents a figure in a position of authority, such as a senior male relative, a male teacher, etc. Such a dream indicates the necessity of facing the fear factor in real life.
