Can we call them dieting software?
Raman Mohan

REGISTRY flab can slow down even the fastest system. To add to our woes, not many of us are technically equipped to play with the Windows registry. Now we have a freeware that lets us maintain a lean and mean Registry without much fuss. However, before using this program, you must familiarise yourself with its features. The other featured freeware is also a cleaning utility but with a difference. While jv16 PowerTools removes accumulated flab, BeClean can remove elements of fat that can accumulate from your Net surfing.

jv16 Power Tools 1.3

This program is based on the RegCleaner program featured in this column earlier. Not only does it represent a better RegCleaner with more features but a whole new program with all tools you need to take full control of your computer. It works on any computer running Windows ’95, ’98, ’98 SE, Me, NT4, 2000 or XP operating system. It comprises several tools. The Registry Tool is an improved version of RegCleaner. It contains all registry features from RegCleaner. You can uninstall software, remove leftover registry entries from software you thought you had removed ages ago. The Registry Tool is your interface to the Registry and you really don’t need extensive knowledge of the registry to use the Registry Tool. The File Tool is a powerful tool for files. You can search for duplicate files, zero-size files and invalid shortcuts, just to name a few. In addition to just searching files you can retrieve a lot of useful information from them, such as date the file was last accessed, files version, author and so on. When you have found the files you were looking for you can simply remove them or perform many other tasks to them as well, for example rename, encrypt, securely wipe, merge together, change attributes or move to another place. Likewise the Temp File Tool provides you the best way to control your computer’s temporary files. Many programs use temporary files for many reasons but sometimes they are left to your hard drive for nothing. You can configure the temp file tool to remove temp files or just empty some directories. The Backup Tool automatically takes backups of the items you delete so you can later restore them. The backup tool allows you to restore or to remove your backups as well as combine them together or renames them. Download from www.jv16.org

BeClean

This is a complete suite of system cleaner. It has Registry Cleaner, Internet Cleaner, History Cleaner, Temporary Files Cleaner, Disk Cleaner, Desktop Cleaner and Start Menu Cleaner. You can even create your own cleaner! As we surf the Net, hundreds of files get stored in different folders such as the Temporary Internet Files, Temp files and History. However, this program will clean everything that needs to be thrown away automatically. You can run it after every Net session and rid your system of unwanted flab. A bonus use is that once you have run it, you can be sure that no one can find out what you were doing on the Net and what sites you have been to. That makes for a great privacy control tool.
