Dev Samaj college wins teaching
contests Ludhiana, March 5 The teaching subjects in which the competition was held were social studies, commerce, economics and physical education. An exhibition was organised by the students of the host college. Different handmade items were
displayed, which included artificial flowers, wall hangings, painted bed covers, photo frames. The best part w ere the beautiful objects made out of the waste. The prize distribution function started with shabad singing followed by a folk song by Dilbag Singh. The chief guest was Dr Subhash Reader, Department of Education, Panjab University,
Chandigarh, and he gave away the prizes to the winners. In teaching of commerce the first prize went to Kirandeep Bedi of Dev Samaj College of Education, Chandigarh, in physical education Gurpreet Kaur of Dev Samaj College of Education, Chandigarh, bagged the first prize. In teaching of economics Neelu Kapoor bagged the first prize and in teaching of social studies the first prize was won by Mandeep Gill of Government College of Education, Chandigarh. The host college won the third prize in the teaching of social studies(Lakhvir Singh), third prize in economics (Nandlal ), third prize in teaching aid preparation (Manjeet Singh ) and second prize in economics (Guru Hargobind Khalsa college of Education). The Principal Dr J.S.Brar and Vice- Principal Rakesh Kumar gave the vote of thanks. |
Seminar on local
leadership Doraha, March 5 The one-day orientation programme was arranged by a group of 40 participants invited from among local community leaders and students of the college. The programme was presided over by Mr Tarlok Singh Jaggi, former president of the Karyana Merchants Association and social activist. In his presiding lecture, he urged the local leaders and the college students to educate the illiterate masses of rural India so that self-consciousness and awareness was generated among them. He also congratulated the college Principal, Mr Jaswant Singh Gill, for organising such programmes from time to time. Elaborating upon local leadership, Dr Ajaib Singh and Dr Prabha Vij, project officer, said the aim for organising such programmes in educational institutions was to inform students of burning issues so that they could transmit the knowledge to the people at the grassroot level. He stressed the need for awareness about female foeticide, female infanticide, environment pollution, degrading human values, AIDS and malnutrition. A lecture on human resources and communication was delivered by Prof Kuldip Singh of the Government College for Women, Ludhiana. He stressed the need for inculcating strong moral, social and ethical values. He said, “The sources of communication should not present a biased view. These should try to keep up regional identities along with national identities.” Prof Kuldip Singh Kalsi of the Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, spoke on AIDS. He elaborated upon the reasons for the disease and its dire consequences. He said, “Proper care should be taken during blood transfusion and disposable needles should be used. Safe sex is another precaution.” Mr Bandeep Singh spoke about environment. He said, “The environment is being degraded with air, water and noise pollution. As man has created this natural imbalance, he is sure to suffer its deadly effects. We have contaminated air and earth to the extent that if we begin restoration today, it will take years to reach original position.” The queries of the participants were answered by the speakers. The students were assigned the task of spreading the knowledge among the residents of the area and surrounding villages. The chief guest, Mr Tarlok Singh Jaggi, honoured the speakers. Prof Pargat Singh Sekhon, in charge of the NSS unit, proposed the vote of thanks. |
