Rare angioplasty at INSCOL hospital
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, March 5
A rare angioplasty in which stents were placed in the blocked arteries was performed at INSCOL Hospital yesterday by renowned cardiologist Dr Deepak Kaura and his team.

Mr Amarjeet (43), who suffered from polio in his childhood, was suffering from angina when he was brought to the hospital. He was having severe Kyphoscoliosis (deformity of the spine) which made any procedure difficult. He was taken up for angiography, which revealed severe blockade in two main arteries.

Because of his physical deformities he could not be taken up for bypass surgery. Instead, angioplasty was planned. However, because of the back and chest deformities, the catheter course was difficult and initial attempt to do angioplasty was unsuccessful. Specially designed catheters were used in this patient and both his arteries were opened and stents were placed. The procedure took about three hours. Amarjeet is now recovering and is expected to be discharged soon.
