It takes two to tango
SHE
is the Pepsi girl, and he, the Kamasutra guy. When Waluscha Souza and
Marc Robinson tied the knot, it created a lot of fizz. For one, they
proved the age-old dictum that age doesn't really matter, when it comes
to love. With a 14-year age gap, Marc Robinson and Waluscha Souza have
ventured where few dare to tread. In fact, Marc reasons that women are
known to mature faster than men. Waluscha just smiles in agreement.
Model, again in the sense that once they decided on marriage, nothing
could come in the way, not even modelling campaigns or Bollywood offers
for Waluscha. For this Goan babe, who had done the prestigious Pepsi
advertisement with the Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, taking
wedding vows with her beau of almost a year, Marc Robinson, was the
right choice, ahaaa! She brushed away sceptics, who said she was
losing out on a promising career by settling for domesticity. While she
hopes to do commercial work, once in a while, she maintains, ‘'I am
not the modern woman. I am quite domestic and like being at home. My
ultimate dream was to marry a wonderful man and raise a family,’' she
says. Marc his words, for Marc, who became hot property after posing for
Kamasutra condoms, it was love at first sight. He met her at the Miss
India pageant held at Hyderabad in 1998. While Waluscha was one of the
participants, Marc was on the panel. ‘’'Something struck me the
first time I saw her,' he admitted. This is not the first marriage for
Marc, though. He was married to hair stylist Colleen Khan once. 'There's
no bad blood between Colleen and me today. Both of us will always be
there for each other in an emergency.' He has been a guy, who has, as
they say, been around the block. But like the true blue reformed rake,
he confesses, 'Ever since I met her, there's always been marriage on my
mind.' This model-turned-choreographer also had a one-off courtship with
Bollywood, when he played the lead opposite Shabana Azmi in Bada Din.
With a Masters in Commerce from the Delhi School of Economics, he had
also worked with the marketing division of Virgin Atlantic in New York,
and had been a veejay with Channel V for some time. |
Waluscha, born to a German mother and a Portuguese father, was named Waltraudt originally. But before long she was renamed Waluscha, meaning 'lady of the woods'. Winner of the Lakme and MTV model mission contest, Waluscha, has studied psychology from St Xavier's, Mumbai. Though, she too was attracted to Marc, Waluscha took her time saying 'yes' since she was wary of 'his reputation.' Marc and Waluscha met for a second time at a fashion show that the former was choreographing at the Taj in Mumbai. When he fell short of a model, his coordinator recommended Waluscha, who had just arrived in Mumbai. But after the show, she went back to Goa. Marc desperately tried getting in touch with her, sending her messages through friends and finally roped her in for another fashion show. After the show, Waluscha again went back to Goa. Marc got her back to Mumbai, and the two started going around. Goan wedding The marriage, held on February 2, 2002, was a simple affair with only a few close friends like Sophia Haque, Jules Fuller, Prasad Bidapa and Ritu Nanda. Marc zeroed down on February 2, since it also happens to be his parents' wedding anniversary. But the marriage had last-minute glitches. The ceremony, which was to take place at St Cagetan's Church in Old Goa, came under the purview of the Archaeological Survey of India. The authorities refused permission to the venue at the eleventh hour. Marc had to use his political connections, right from the state’s Governor to the Chief Minister, to get the approval. Tailor-made As per the bride's wish, Marc bought Waluscha's wedding gown from New York. The bridegroom's tuxedo was designed by close pal Azeem Khan. Another close friend, photographer Sumeet Chopra, played the best man, while former veejay Suchitra Pillai was the MC. But the most romantic gesture on the part of the bridegroom was the car he chose to drive his bride back home in. Waluscha and Marc Robinson began their marital journey in a 1927 Austin. A channel of love The couple have a baby girl whom they have named Chanel. All through her pregnancy, the doting hubby was spotted at various spots either indulgently watching his wife shop or even taking her for long sea-side walks. The new-age husband balanced his professional pursuits with domestic duties. What's more, he was at his wife's side as she endured the delivery pains. As Marc concentrates on his career in choreography, new mum Waluscha is playing mother to the hilt. She knows that her baby has opened new channels of love with husband Marc. — Leisure Media News |
