Ludhiana, February 24
The annual sports meet of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana, began here today. Mr Kanwaljit Singh Sandhu, SSP, (Vigilance) Ludhiana, inaugurated the meet.
The Principal of the college, Mr Gurdip Singh, highlighted the sports history of the college that had produced athletes of national and international repute. The chief guest exhorted the students to work hard and bring glory to their college, parents and the country.
He was presented a memento by the governing council of the college. Mr Harmander Singh, Joint Secretary, Mr Kuljit Singh, Assistant Secretary, Principal R.S. Grewal and Mr Teja Singh, Honorary Secretary of the Punjab Basketball Association, were present on the

Charan Singh and Jandha Singh of Gill finished ahead of others to win the bullock-cart race in the 50th annual sports festival at Budhewal near here that concluded on Sunday. They received a Bullet motor cycle. Honey of Kot Gangurai got the second spot and pocketed a cash prize of Rs
10,000.In volleyball smashing, Ludhiana eves beat Hoshiarpur, 25-10, 25-18, 25-15, to bag the title, while in the men’s section, Amargarh defeated Government College for Boys, Ludhiana, 25-20, 25-18 and
25-22. In volleyball (shooting), Suhag Majra outplayed Gill, 2-1. Mukandpur College outclassed Ghungrali Rajputan, 2-0, to clunch the trophy in football (all open). In the one-village final, Ghungrali Rajputan defeated Kulianwal
3-1. Hockey Olympians, Devinder Singh Garcha, Surinder Singh Sodhi, Sanjeev Kumar, Balwinder Singh, Harpreet Singh and Gurdeep Singh, were honoured by the organisers on the occasion.
