Maruti Suzuki Autocross in Noida New Delhi, February 13 The two-day event is a skill-driving test wherein drivers negotiate a prescribed course consisting of sharp twists and turns to evaluate their skills in manoeuvring and controlling their cars. The event is expected to attract 100 cars. It comes to Delhi after two regional rounds at Chandigarh and Jaipur. The autocross competition will have two different sections — open entry and invitation for present and past champions. In the general category, there will be four classes — Maruti 800 and Maruti Alto 800; Maruti 1.0,
Maruti Zen, Maruti Wagon R and Maruti Alto 1.1; Maruti Esteem and Maruti Baleno 1.6. The track will be a smooth gravel surface, and will be approximately 1.2 km long.. |

Kapil opens Guru Gobind Singh Cricket Academy New Delhi, February 13 A number of cricket players and officials were present at the inaugural ceremony. They included former Test cricketer Madan Lal, Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) vice-president Chetan Chauhan, former Delhi Ranji Trophy skipper Bhaskar Pillai, DDCA joint secretary Sunil Khanna, joint club secretary Dr S. S. Sareen, vice-president Suresh Chopra, North Delhi Cricketers’ Association secretary Himmat Saini, principal of Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce Dr Jaspal Singh and former Punjab Ranji Trophy player Ashwani Minna. Kapil Dev, who captained India to the World Cup title triumph in 1983, praised the green outfield and hoped that the Board of Control for Cricket in India would also provide such grounds for domestic tournaments to help produce international class fielders like Jonty Rhodes. He also hailed Maninder Singh Jaggi, Kapil’s college mate, for venturing to help out budding cricketers. |
DGACR Delhi annex soccer title New Delhi, February 13 Rishi Kapoor slotted in the match-winner with a sharp left footer from 20 metres out 12 minutes after the re-start. The ball grazed the hands of Haryana custodian Kulvinder Singh and went in. In an even fight, both the teams made forays into each other’s territory, but Delhi were lucky to have a sharpshooter in their ranks in Rishi Kapoor. Both Delhi and Haryana have qualified for the Inter-Zone Tournament, to be held in Chandigarh in March. Deputy Comptroller and Auditor-General of India T. S. Narasimhan gave away the prizes. |
