Govt College’s separate women wing likely

The separate women wing of the Government College, Bahadurgarh, would be established at Old Civil Hospital building in the town, which is likely to be operative from the next academic session. This was disclosed by Mr Nafe Singh Rathee, MLA, Bahadurgarh.

While addressing the students during the prize distribution ceremony of the annual athletics meet here on Saturday evening, Mr Rathee informed that the need of a separate wing for the girl students is being felt for long and the Chief Minister had promised to shift the girl students to another place.

He said that in view of the increasing instances of eve-teasing. The approach road to the college would be rebuild in the new financial year. And the demolished boundary wall would be repaired at the earliest and arrangements for proper lighting would be made on the campus, Mr Rathee added.

Later, talking about the protests of the residents of some colonies against the demolition of a temple, constructed in the middle of Najafgarh Road here, he said that all the encroachments would be removed.

He stated that the encroachments on the Barahi Road would be removed and another temple, constructed there, would be removed. The foundation stone of this temple was laid by him when he was the chairman of the municipal committee but the temple authorities have now encroached upon the road, he maintained. Mr Rathee also gave away the prizes to the winners of the athletic meet.

Zakir Husain Tournament
Jamia Millia bag football trophy

Jamia Millia Islamia defeated hosts Zakir Husain College by a solitary goal to bag the Zakir Husain Memorial Football Tournament crown at the Ambedkar Stadium on Monday.

The match-winner came off a penalty kick.

In a lacklustre final, Zakir Husain College had the better of the exchanges, but the inept shooting by their forwards muffed many a goal-scoring opportunity.

The match-winner materialised when Jamia Millia were awarded a penalty kick following the handling the ball in the 38th minute by Inderjeet Sharma of Zakir Husain.

The resultant spot kick was converted by striker Kabul Tyagi. Former principal of Zakir Husain College Mohd Riaz Umar was the chief guest. Jamia Hamdard were awarded the fair play trophy.

Mukesh to play in Singhania Open Golf

New Delhi, February 10
Defending champion Mukesh Kumar will compete for his 11th title of the season when he takes part in the Singhania Open Golf Tournament to be played at the Noida Golf Course from February 12 to 16.

The Singhania Open is the 21st leg of the season’s golf tour and carries a prize money of Rs 6 lakh. The winner will pocket a prize money of Rs 97,200.

Mukesh Kumar will be the star attraction and his performances so far rate him as a favourite to win the title. Mukesh had narrowly missed out on winning the Hero Honda Open West title last week, after leading the field for three days.

“The coming week is an exciting one. I am on the brink of equalling Basad Ali’s record of 11 titles in a tour season.”

Other leading players to try their hands would be Digvijay Singh, Vijay Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Shiv Prakash and Rohtas Singh.

The Noida Golf Course has been spruced up for the tournament. The par-72 facility boasts of extremely well maintained fairways, peppered with strategically placed bunkers and water bodies.

Rewari district the best on the park

Jhajjar, February 10
District Football Association, Rewari lifted the trophy in the Haryana State Football Championship by defeating DFA, Rohtak in the final played at the Brigadier Hosiar Singh stadium in Bahadurgarh here on Sunday.

Rewari defeated Rohtak 1-0. The lone goal was scored in the second half of the match as the exciting two-day encounters concluded here on Sunday.

The DFA, Rohtak team entered the final by defeating Sonepat 4-2 in the tie-break in the first semifinal while Rewari defeated Gurgaon in the second semifinal by 3-2, also in the tie-break. In another match played for the third position, Gurgaon beat Sonepat 2-1.

Mr Satbir Singh Kadian, Speaker of the Haryana Assembly, gave away the prizes to the winning teams.

He called upon sportspersons to perform better as the state government had been taking many steps to encourage sports in Haryana. He sanctioned the post of a coach for the Jhajjar Football Association on the demand of the local MLA, Mr Nafe Singh Rathee.

Bright Club enter quarter-final

A fine all-round performance by Akash Malhotra (49 and 3 for 35) and a solid knock of 82 by Nischal Gaur helped Bright Club defeat Darya Ganj Gymkhana by 19 runs and entered the quarter-final of the third Rajdhani Sports Trophy Cricket Tournament at the Kalindi College ground. Akash received the Man of the Match Award.

Scores: Bright Club: 218 for 6 in 40 overs (Nischal Gaur 82, Akash Malhotra 49, Vivek Kumar 35, Sumit Narwal 28 n.o, Jagdish Singh 3 for 39).

Daryaganj Gymkhana: 199 all out in 38.4 overs (Jagdish Singh 64, Padamjeet Sehrawat 28, Gaurav Malhotra 25, Akash

Malhotra 3 for 35, Surender Kumar 2 for 44).

Hat-trick by Puneet Kashyap in Teri Cup

Puneet Kashyap claimed four wickets for five runs, including three in a row, to help B L Kashyap beat Lucent Technologies by ten wickets in a league match of the tenth Teri Cup Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval. Puneet was named the man of the match.

Scores: Lucent Technologies: 72 all out in 16.4 overs (Rohit 26, 3x4; Soumender Kar 22, 2x4; Puneet Kashyap 4 for 5, Atul Kashyap 2 for 2, Harmeet Singh 2 for 25).

B.L. Kashyap: 74 for no loss in 10.3 overs (Deep Singh 21 no, 3x4; Vikram Kashyap 32 n.o, 7x4).

Vikram Yadav shines in Commonwealth cricket

A fine all-round performance by Vikram Yadav (2 for 49 and 64) and deadly bowling by Mahesh (4 for 8) helped British High Commission defeat Doordarshan Cricket Club by seven wickets in a league match of the second Commonwealth Cricket Tournament at the National Stadium.

Australian High Commissioner Mrs Peneloppe Wensly inaugurated the tournament.

Scores: Doordarshan Club: 122 in 25.2 overs (Manoj 28 n.o, V R Hari 28, Mahesh 4 for 8, Rohit Roy 2 for 25, Vikram Yadav 2 for 49).

British High Commission: 123 for 3 in 16 overs (Vikram Yadav 64, Arun Pandala 28 n o).

Top teams for colleges hockey

New Delhi, February 10
Sixteen top teams, including eight champion colleges of the Inter-University Zonal Tournaments and eight other colleges selected on the basis of their track record, will participate in the 10th Nehru-ONGC Champion Colleges Hockey Tournament, organised by the Association of Indian Universities, at the Shivaji Stadium.

The tournament will be played in two phases. In the first phase, 16 teams, divided into four groups, will play league matches and the two best teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals in the second phase.

From quarter-final onwards, the matches will be played on a knock out basis.

The title winners will pocket a cash prize of Rs 2.20 lakh. Pachiyappa College, Chennai will take on Rourkela Municipal College in the opening match.

Kapil to open Guru Gobind Singh Academy

Former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev will inaugurate the Guru Gobind Singh Cricket Academy at the Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce at Pitampura (near TV tower) on February 12 at 11.30 am.

Former Ranji Trophy player Maninder Singh Jaggi will supervise the academy. Reputed coaches will impart training.

North Zone Audit Football

The North Zone Audit Football Tournament, organised by the Director-General of Audits, Central Revenues, will be held from February 11 to 13 at the Ambedkar Stadium. Four teams will participate in the tournament.

They are: Director General of Audit, New Delhi, Accountant General of Audit, Punjab, Accountant General of Audit, Chandigarh and Accountant General of Audit, Allahabad.
