Chandigarh, February 10
Over 300 patients were examined, and corrective surgery for polio was performed on 102
patients by a team of orthopaedic surgeons selected by President of Rotary Chandigarh Shivalik Dr G.S.
Kocher. The patients were examined at a camp held at Akalgarh in Varanasi
district. It was inaugurated by UP Health Minister Fagur Chauhan.
Akalgarh, according to Dr
Kocher, has the highest number of positive polio cases in the country. The polio corrective surgery team was initially constituted by the Governor of Rotary District 3080 Hemant Arora. He appointed Dr
Kocher as the team leader.
Dr Kocher, in turn, selected Dr Vijay Sehgal, Dr Faizal and Dr Garg to conduct the corrective surgery camp. Past District Governor of Rotary District 3120 Onkar Parsad Aggarwal and President of
Akalgarh Club Chander Aggarwal, along with other Rotarians, extended full co-orperation to the Chandigarh doctors.
KHARAR:
The Rotary Club and the Health Department jointly immunised 4,540 children in Kharar, Khanpur and Mundi Kharar on Sunday. At the Bus Stand, Kharar, Mr S.S. Dhanoa, In charge, Civil Hospital, Kharar, and Harpreet Singh Rekhi, President, Rotary Club, Kharar, kicked off the drive by administering polio drops to the children. Twenty Rotarian and inner wheel members along with Health staff workers were on the road manning 15 booths as part of their support for the polio eradication campaign. Rotary, a leading NGO partner in the programme has extended its full support to the state government to make the pulse Polio Vaccination programme a success.
Rotarians and Health workers were seen at booths mobilising parents to bring their children upto five years of age for polio vaccine.
Now the Health Department will start house-to-house immunisation, which will be conducted to reach to children who may have been missed.
PATIALA: The district administration and NGOs worked hand in hand to administer polio drops during the second round of pulse-polio campaign held in the city. MP Parneet Kaur inaugurated the camp at the Civil Surgeon’s office and congratulated the Health Department for their efforts.
The Civil Surgeon, Dr Inderjit Kaur Walia said 2,18,736 children in the age group of 0-5 were administered polio drops today. She said all efforts had been made to ensure that all people, especially those residing in the slum areas were acquainted about the campaign. The district administration distributed pamphlets and deployed health workers at various places in the city to administer polio drops. NGOs and other social workers could be seen exhorting the people to bring their children to pulse polio booths. Several social workers, anganwadi workers, government employees and teachers could be seen administering polio drops at various places in the city. PRTC employees also put up a booth at the bus stand and administered polio drops to children in transit. Mobile teams with polio drops could be seen at different parts of the city.
The Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Dr S.S. Boparai inaugurated the pulse-polio camp at the University Health Centre and administered polio drops to several children.
