Sohana hospital opens dental wing in city

Chandigarh, February 9
A dental wing of the Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Charitable Eye Hospital , Sohana, was inaugurated at the Indo-American Eye Care Centre by Bhai Sahib Bhai Jasbir Singhji Khalsa (Khannewale) in Sector 8-C here today.

Apart from regular treatment like RCT, extractions, fillings and tooth colour and cosmetic fillings and scaling, a new concept in replacing lost tooth without much alteration known as dental implantation, has been introduced. Another highlight of the new wing is the introduction of RVG and intra-oral camera which is a computer-based technology to view the teeth and maintain the records of patients.

After the inauguration ceremony a free health check-up camp was also organised in which doctors from various specialities like eye, dental, gynae, paediatrics, urology, ENT, skin, general medicine, general surgery and orthopaedics checked the 600 patients, who were also given free medicine.

The Chairman of the trust, Bhai Sahib Jasbir Singhji Khalsa, said the Sohana hospital was equipped with all the emergency facilities and other medical facilities.

The charitable hospital is equipped with the latest technologies to deal with problems like laproscopy, lithrotripsy, C-Arm, hernia, radiology, X-ray, ensoscopies, hip transplantation, lung stone, etc.

Talk on healthcare

At a meeting of the Senior Citizens Welfare Association of Modern Housing Complex in Mani Majra, Dr D. K. Chopra of Chopra Hospital gave a talk on healthcare after the age of 50.

The doctor told senior citizens about the ideal diet and exercise for keeping fit at this age.

The participants learnt about the diseases of old age. Justice B.S. Nehra (retd) presided over the meeting that was attended, among others, by members of the association like Mr Amrit Dhingra, Mr D.P. Wadhwa, Mr C.L. Wadhwa, Mr P.N. Kapahi, Mr S.L. Aggarwal, Mr S.L. Kaushal and Mr K.K. Kapoor.

Vijay Kumar takes chequered flag

Fancied Vijay Kumar raced to top slot in the open class of the 18th Chandigarh Motocross, which was organised here today at Circus Grounds, Sector 17. Yogesh Vijay secured second place, while Rewat Dhillon claimed third place. The one day meet was organised by the Chandigarh Motor Sport Association. In the clubman category, Gulab Chand bagged first place while Robin Manrao and Anuj Mohan took second and third place, respectively. In the four-stroke section, T.K. Vishwanath clinched first place, while C. Vijay Kumar and C.D. Jinan got second third place, respectively. In the expert class, T.K. Vishwanath finished first, while Yogesh Vijay and Shiva Kumar secured second and third place, respectively. The event was sponsored by Indian Oil Corporation and TVS.

Annual athletics meet

The 45th annual athletics meet of DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, concluded this evening with legendary cricketer Kapil Dev announcing a cash award of Rs 1,000 per month to the best sportsman and best student (academics) of the college every year. Gurinder Pal Singh and Gurmit Singh were declared joint best athletes to win Sandeep Sagar Memorial trophy.

Earlier, Mr Subhash Marriya, Principal of the college, highlighted the achievements of Kapil Dev and expressed deep sense of gratitude to him for visiting his very own college.

Results: 100 m: Harish Singh 1, Gurinder Pal Singh 2, Amandeep Singh 3. 200 m: Gurmit Singh 1, Amandeep Singh 2, Hari Singh 3. 800 m: Gurmit Singh 1, Deepak Kumar 2, Satwinder Singh 3. 5000 m: Gurmit Singh 1, Deepak Kumar 2, Satwinder Singh 3. Long jump: Gurinder Pal Singh 1, Amandeep Singh 2, Deepak Mahajan 3.

Pitch and Putt Tourney

The monthly Pitch and Putt Tournament was held at the CGA Golf Range yesterday. Eight-year-old Bharat Bhandari was the youngest participant in the meet. The results: S.P. Singh 1, A.S. Gill 2. Women: Kanika 1,Vriti Gujral 2. Juniors: Raghav Bhandari 1, Vidur Nayyar 2.

Giant screen at PCA

The PCA Club, SAS Nagar, has put up a giant screen in its library complex for the cricket lovers to watch the World Cup-2003 matches live. According to Mr G.S. Walia, Joint Secretary PCA, the screen would add glamour to the event and fans could watch matches on it till March 23.

Cricket tourney

A superb bowling performance by Haryana Ranji player Vineet Jain, who claimed five wickets for 11 runs, and Surinder Singh ‘Baijee’, who bagged four wickets for 14 runs, enabled LG-XI beat High Court-Xi by 82 runs in the inaugural Kesar Singh Anand Memorial Cricket Tournament played here at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19. In another match of the day, Godrej Cricket Club beat Classic-XI by 76 runs.

Annual athletics meet

Chandigarh, February 9
The annual athletics meet and prize distribution function of Aanchal Preparatory School was held here today, in which students from all classes participated in the march-past and track events.

The Chairman, Federation of Sector Welfare Associations, Air Marshal Randhir Singh (retd), was the chief guest. A two-minute silence was observed in the memory of Kalpana Chawla. Races for both juniors and seniors were organised. Games were also organised for parents.
