Laxman Khadirgamar

"THANK you, it is indeed nice of you..." said the then Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Laxman Khadirgamar, when this sketch of his was given to him for his signature soon after he concluded his Press conference in Delhi. He was on an official visit to meet his counterpart and discuss bilateral issues. A brilliant student during his student days at Oxford University, Laxman Khadirgamar was elected as the president of the Oxford University Students’ Union.

After his return, he practiced law at the Ceylon Bar. An eminent lawyer, Khadirgamar became a consultant to I.L.O. in Geneva in 1974.

Soft-spoken Khadirgamar is one of the most respected citizens of Sri Lanka and as a diplomat he made a name for himself as an efficient foreign minister under Chandrika Kumaratunga.
