HC approves DDCA-govt settlement on JP’s statue
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, January 3
The statue of Sarvodaya leader Jai Prakash Narayan would be installed on the land adjacent to Ferozshah Kotla Stadium, following an out-of-court settlement between the Delhi District Cricket Association and the Centre. The Delhi High Court today gave its approval to the settlement reached between the two parties.

Justice S. K. Kaul approved the out-of-court settlement between the DDCA and the government after senior advocate Arun Jaitley, appearing for the DDCA, submitted that the issue has been resolved amicably by the two parties.

According to the mutual agreement between the two parties, an underground parking would be developed at the site adjacent to Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in front of the stadium and JP’s statue would be installed over ground, Mr Jaitely, appearing for the DDCA, told the court.

The DDCA in a petition had sought to reserve the ground for parking during cricket matches, while the government had a proposal to develop it into a park and install the statue of Jai Prakash Narayan there.
