Sonik-Shahdara score facile victory

New Delhi, December 19
Sonik-Shahdara Football Club scored a 3-0 convincing victory against Garhwal Heroes in a crucial preliminary match of group-B to collect three points in the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) Annual Open Clubs Senior Division Football League Championship played at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here today.

Shahdara led 1-0 through outside left Bhupender Thakur who struck in 15th minute of the game.

Shahdara has collected four points from five matches while Garhwal Heroes received their fifth successive blow. On changing ends, Shahdara’s Bhupender Thakur made the lead 2-0 in 45th minute, while mid-fielder Naresh Maan completed the tally 3-0 towards the close of the match.

In another group-B match, the game between Indian Air Force (New Delhi) and Nestor-Goan S.C. ended in a draw 1-1. In a keenly contested match, Goan Club took the lead in the 35th minute through Chandan Singh and Air Force equalised it 1-1 in the 58th minute through victor l B.

Goans have 11 points from five matches while Air Force have 10 points from 5 matches.

Football championship in TN

Mid fielder Anand William will lead a 30-member Delhi State sub-junior (under-16) football championship beginning from Dec 20 at Nevyeli in Tamil Nadu.

HCA to complete selection trial on Dec 22

Rohtak, December 19
The Haryana Cricket Association will complete the process of selecting teams for the 2002-2003 cricket session on December 22, when the selection trials take place for Haryana’s team for Board of Control for Cricket in India’s recognised under-25 cricket tourney. The secretary of Haryana Cricket Association, Ranbir Singh Mahendra, told NCR Tribune that the trials would be conducted at the Delhi Public School premises situated at Jind Road here on Sunday at 10 am.

According to Mahendra, the tourney commences on January 2 in North Zone but Haryana will play it’s first match on January 6 to 8 against Delhi, whereas Haryana play hosts to Himachal Pradesh at Rohtak from January 11 to 13 and Jammu and Kashmir from January 16 to 18. Both these matches will be held at Maharaja Aggarsain Stadium here. In the last encounter of the tournament, Haryana will take on Punjab in Punjab from January 20 to 22.

Fixtures for the BCCI’s under-25 cricket tourney for the season:

January 2 to 4: Delhi vs Jammu & Kashmir in Jammu, Punjab vs Himachal Pradesh in Himachal, Janua 6-8: Punjab vs Jammu and Kashmir in Jammu, Delhi vs Haryana in Delhi, Jan 11-13: Himachal Pradesh vs Haryana in Haryana, Delhi vs Punjab in Punjab.

January 16 to 18: J&K vs Haryana in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh vs Delhi in Delhi.

January 20 to 22: Punjab vs Haryana in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh vs J&K in Himachal Pradesh.

Gaurav, Vinay help Salwan to victory

Superb batting by Gurav Chabra (84 runs) and deadly bowling by Vinay (3 for 30) helped Salwan boys beat Hansraj Model School by 102 runs and enter the semi-finals of the HT-Pace Milo Young Cricket 2003. The match was played at Amity ground.

Scores: Salwan boys: 239 for 7 in 35 overs: (Gurav Chabra 84, Narender 42) Hansraj School: 137 all out in 30.4 overs (Sahil 31, Vinay 3/3).

In the second match, Modern School, Barakhamba Road beat Don Bosco School by 15 runs and entered in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Scores: Modern School: 201 for 6 in 35 overs: (Delhi U-16 Captain Aditya Jain 39, Mayank Sidhana 31, Rahul Ahuja 2/36)

Don Bosco School: 186 for 7 in 35 overs (Prveen Rawat 58, Rahul Ahuja 43, Aditya 3/17, Avril 2/38, Vartic Tihara 2/43)

In the third match, a fine century by Manav Sharma and a cracking knock of 86 runs by Varun Singh and deadly bowling by Ankur Julka 3/36 helped Gyan Bharti School, Saket, beat Hamdard Public School by 154 runs.

Scores: Gyan Bharti School: 281 for 1 in 35 overs(Manav Sharma 110, Varun Sngh 86)

Hamdard Public School: 127 all out in 24.4 overs (Ankur Julka 3/26).

In yet another match, played in the tournament, fine half centuries by Bharat Khurana (69 runs) and Safiqe Khan (55 runs, 3x4 5x4) helped DPS Mathura Road beat Bal Bharti School, Pitampura, by 7 wickets at DPS playground.

HUDCO rout NTPC

Rohtak, December 19
HUDCO defeated NTPC by 10 wickets in a super league match of Luminous Cup played at CSG II. Rajneesh Saxena of HUDCO was declared Man of the Match.

Scores: NTPC 142 for 9 wickets in 25 overs: (Sanjay Deodhar 49 (62 balls, 4x3), A K Chaturvedi 27, Om Parkash 4-0-22-3

HUDCO: 148 for no loss in 18.1 overs (Rajneesh Saxena 89 in 62 balls (4x13, 6x4), Ramesh Negi 51, Dinesh Gulati 3-1-20-0.

HSS in final

An all-round performance by Abhishek Mukherjee helped Hughes Software Systems (HSS) beat SPBRG-AAI by 43 runs and enter the final of the second Eventus Cup. Opting to bat first, HSS scored 172 runs for the loss of six wickets in 25 overs.

A brilliant knock of Abhishek, who scored 55 not off 54 balls with the help of four boundaries, and I D Singh, who scored 39 in just 22 balls with 2 fours and one six, helped score the easy victory. In reply, SPBRG-AAI were all out for 129 runs. Upen Babu took three wickets and Abhishek, Tarun and Ashwani took two wickets each. Abhishek Mukherjee (HSS) was declared Man of the Match. OSR

Saunik stars in DAV win

A fine knock of 85 runs by Saunik Chatterjee and a deadly bowling of 4/38 by leg spinner Sahil Chugh helped D L DAV School, Shalimar Bagh, defeat Ravindra Public School by 18 runs and enter the final of the first Aryavrat under-15 cricket tournament. The match was played at Paschim Vihar Sports Complex ground. Saunik was declared the Man of the Match.

Scores:

DAV School: 252 for 9 in 40 overs: Saunik Chatterjee 85, Jaladh Dua 51, Vipin Malhotra 33, Jain 3/40, Sunny Chandera 3/30.

Ravindera Public School: 234 all out in 39.2 overs: Pankaj Sethi 65, Jatin Pal 54, Sahil Chugh 4/38, Abhishek Sakuja 3/42.

Sar Group in semis

New Delhi
Sar Group beat Hero Honda by 89 runs to enter the semi-finals of the 6th DG Phadkar Memorial Cricket Tournament at Teri Oval today. Hero Honda won the toss and decided to field first but was beaten convincingly by Sar Group. Amresh Pradhan was adjudged Man of the Match.

Scores: Sar Group 138 for 9 in 25 overs (Jitender 35 (5x4) Amresh 34 (4x4) Kazan Singh 4 for 28, Gagan Verma 3 for 21)
