Sidhana’s ton helps Modern School win

New Delhi, December 18
A fine century by Mayank Sidhana (141 runs 15X4, 6X2) and deadly bowling by Karan Harit (4/23), Aviral (2/26), Deepak (2/32) helped Modern School, Barakhamba Road, beat Bal Bharati Ganga Ram Lane School by 157 runs and Salwan Public School, Rajender Nagar, beat Amity International School, Noida, to enter the quarter-finals of HT Pace Milo Young Cricket Tournament.

Scores: Modern School: 268 for 7 in 35 overs (Mayank Sidhana 141)

Bal Bharati Ganga Ram Lane School: 111 all out in 29 overs (Karan Sahni 43, Karan Harit 4/23, Aviral 2/26, Deepak Rajput 2/32).

In the other match, deadly bowling by Saurav Saddi (6/25) and fine batting by Rohan Gulati (58 runs 4x4, 2x6) helped Salwan Public School, Rajender Nagar, beat Amity International School, Noida, by seven wickets to enter the quarter-final of HT Pace Milo Young Cricket Tournament at Salwan School.

Amity School: 144 all out in 27.3 over(Saurav Kain 23, Shishar 56, Saurav Saddi 6/25

Salwan School: 145 for 3 in 27.2 overs (Rohan Gulati 58, Sahil Grover 25).

Shalaj Sondhi shines

A deadly spell of 5/30 by off-spinner Shalaj Sondhi and a good half-century (70 n o) by Varun Sood and 66 n o by Raman Gujral helped Hari Nagar Sports Complex defeat Yamuna Sports Complex (D) by 10 wickets in the league match of the DDA Inter-Complex Cricket Tournament at the Tahir Pur Sports Complex ground.

Scores: YSC (D): 149 for 8 in 35 overs (Sutanshu Saxena 61, Ankush Raghav n o 23, Shalaj Sondhi 5/30.

HNS Complex: 153 for no loss in 20.2 overs (Varun Sood not out 70, Raman Gujral not out 66).

Gyan Bharti enter final of Bon-Ton Cricket

Deadly bowling by TCA Jayant (5/27) and good knocks by Ankur Julka (67 and 72) and Manav Sharma (80) helped Gyan Bharti School, Saket, beat St Columba’s School by 168 runs and enter the final of the sixth Bon-Ton Inter-School (under-17) two-day Cricket Tournament at the Gyan Bharti ground.

Scores: Gyan Bharti: 1st innings: 250 all out in 59.1 overs (Ankur Julka 67, Varun Sudan 37, Mayank Babbar 5/47).

St Columba’s: 1st innings: 185 all out in 53.2 overs (Shivam Gupta 37, TCA Jayant 5/27, Manav Sharma 2/64).

Gyan Bharti: II innings: 234 for 4 in 40 overs (Manav Sharma 80, Ankur Julka 72, Chetan Logani n o 25 Mayank Babbar 3/37).

Frontiers Club lose to Tarun Sangha

New Delhi, December 18
Tarun Sangha F.C. defeated Frontiers Club by 2-0 to earn three full points in the Group-A preliminary league match of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Annual Open Clubs Senior Division Football League Championship being played at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium (East) ground here today.

At half-time, Tarun Sangha led 1-0 through Jai Pandit who scored off a penalty kick in 15th minute.

In a fast-paced encounter, both teams played an attacking game most of the time. Referee S. Saha had a tough time in handling the game wherein he was compelled to flash five caution cards to Frontiers Club. Ankur Khanna, following two yellow cards, faced marching orders whereas Shailender, Rajesh and Vinod got yellow cards for foul game.

Tarun Sangha’s Rana made it 2-0 in the 66th minute. Tarun Sangha collected four points from three matches while Frontiers tasted their fourth straight defeat to draw a blank.

Earlier, in another match of Group-A, Nivia Mughals were held to a goalless draw by Delhi Police to share one point each in a lacklustre encounter. Mughals had an edge over their opponents in the last 15 minutes but forwards failed to encash chances. Mughals collected six points from three matches while Delhi Police have five points from three matches.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Sub-Junior (Under-16) Football team led by mid-fielder Anand Williams left this evening for participation in the final round of the Sub-Junior National Championship starting from December 20 at Nevyali in Tamil Nadu.

The 20-member team: Sandeep Bisht, Shahnawaz Khan, Pronoy Roy (goalkeepers),N. K. Meetai, Shorab Khan, Tatihir Hassan, Thangummba (Josef)

As per information received from the BCCI, former Delhi cricketer Rakesh Shukla has been appointed match referee for the Uttar Pradesh vs Orissa Ranji Trophy match to be played at Lucknow from December 28 to 31.

National Games: Faridabad girl wins bronze

Faridabad
Khushboo Saini, a student of DAV Public School, Sector 14 here, has won the bronze medal in the elimination race event of roller skating at the National Games, going on in Hyderabad. Ms Saini is one of the best skaters in the country at present. In other events, the roller hockey team of Haryana won its match against Chandigarh. The Principal of the school, Dr A. V.
