Ranga's Toon Tales

Sam Nujoma

Sam NujomaTHE President of Namibia, Sam Nujoma, is one of stalwarts of Africa. He fought for the freedom of his country from the British. He had visited Delhi a number of times and his latest visit was as president of his country.

He had been an admirer of Mahatma Gandhi and during the freedom movement in Africa he followed the Gandhian methods of satyagrah and achieved the independence of his country in the same manner as Mahatma Gandhi and his followers had done. He believed in non-violence and non-cooperation in his fight against the British rule.

During his short in Delhi, he met Indian leaders and had talks with them on bilateral issues. This sketch made during one of his engagements attracted his attention. He signed it without any hesitation. A big smile was the only remark he could make.
