Dream Theme

Dreaming of shirts
Vinaya Katoch Manhas

EVEN though shirt is an article of clothing, but sometimes a particular item of clothing gains importance as a dream symbol. For instance a torn shirt, a new shirt, or a stain on your shirt have special significance in dreams. Similarly, not wearing a shirt when you are otherwise fully clothed is a dream symbol, too.

As per Indian thought, to dream of wearing a torn shirt warns you that your character may be besmirched. If you see yourself tearing your shirt then it means that a foolish act on your part could cause shame to you. But should someone else tear your shirt then it means that that person is out to harm you. Should you see yourself dressed in a new shirt then it is a good omen as it denotes success in any venture you undertake.

As per western thought, to see yourself wearing a shirt is an indication of getting estranged from your near and dear ones. To lose your shirt means that you shall betray a professional or personal cause through disgraceful conduct. A torn shirt represents misfortune and miserable surroundings. To wear a soiled shirt warns you to take care of your health as you could get infected with some contagious disease.

Psychoanalytically speaking, wearing a shirt means that the way in which you act shall be appropriate to the situation. To remove your shirt indicates an attempt on your part to shed certain beliefs. To wear a new shirt means that you will entertain certain new ideas. It could also depict a desire for appreciation. If you see yourself losing your shirt it means that you entertain a fear of losing your identity. To wear a tight, ill-fitting shirt is indicative of the fact that you are outgrowing certain pleasures and desires and are looking forward to new means of entertainment.

A man would often dream of buying a new shirt but whenever the occasion came to wear it he would find it either torn or soiled. This represents a fear in him regarding new ideas that he wants to entertain. He fears rejection and disapproval. Thus, when the occasion comes to wear the new shirt it has some or the other defect in it.
