New Motorola handsets
Motorola
last week introduced three new handsets - C330 (Rs9,495), E360
(Rs12,995) and T720 (Rs17,995) in India. The three new handsets further
empower Motorola’s recently launched marketing theme —’MotoRising’—
aimed at personalising the Motorola brand and growing its marketshare,
says a company Press note. While the C330 is India’s first handset
with three customisable body shape options, the T720 and E360 are with
colour displays. "The Indian handset market is growing at a CAGR of
over 60per cent, making it among the fastest growing markets in the
world. Motorola has set its target on growing faster than the
market," says Narendra Nayak, Country Operations Manager, Motorola
India PCS.
Flash memory up
Intel Corp. has announced
it is raising prices 20 to 40 per cent on flash memory semiconductors
based on stronger demand for next-generation cellular phones, which use
the chips. Shares of Intel, the world’s
largest chipmaker, and other flash-memory
chip-makers rose on the news. Newer handsets "are using double,
triple, sometimes quadruple the amount of flash memory per cell phone as
previous generations," said Dan Scovel, an analyst at Needham &
Co. Intel, which is the biggest maker of flash memory, and its rival
Advanced Micro Devices, already are benefiting from the need for more
memory, Scovel said. "But this is the first time we’ve heard
numbers this pronounced associated with it," he added, referring to
the price hikes. Reuters
