said to the birthplaces of hockey. The creation of modern hockey is
credited to UK. The first hockey club was formed in Blackhealth in
1861 and the first international match was held in 1895 between
England and Ireland.
Hockey became popular
in India when the British regiment played the game in India and
introduced it in the British Indian Regiment. The first hockey club
was formed in Kolkata in 1885-86. Indians came and brought along the
