Dream Theme

Dreaming of lending
Vinaya Katoch Manhas

WHEN we take up the theme of lending and borrowing, it does not simply refer to money but anything that could be valuable to us. It could be a car, a book or maybe a garden implement. As per Indian thought, if you dream of borrowing, it is an indication of worries and sorrows in the near future. You might also have to face enemies in the near future. To dream of lending something to someone is also equally unfortunate. So, beware, if you have such a dream. You could get surrounded by borrowers, because of whom you might have to face a lot of difficulties and problems. Your financial situation after such a dream could become a cause of worry.

As per western thought, to see yourself lending money in your dreams foretells difficulties in paying off debts. Lending articles other than money denotes impoverishment through generosity. To refuse to lend things portrays that you are aware of your interests and are capable of maintaining the respect of your friends. To dream of others offering to lend you money would denote prosperity and close friendships. Borrowing is a sign of loss and meagre support. Should a businessman dream of borrowing, he should be warned of tough times ahead. If he heeds this warning, it shall hold him in good stead. Should others borrow from you in their time of need then be sure you will have reliable friends in your time of need.

Psychoanalytically speaking, to dream of lending money depicts the creation of a bond of obligation in our lives. To dream of borrowing money would mean that you should look at the way you are handling your resources. If in a dream you lend an object, it would mean acceptance of the fact that we can share that object or the quality it represents with others. Should someone be lending us an article then, in all probability, it would mean that we do not possess that object, and hence require it only for a short period of time.

A man of 50 would often dream of his younger brother asking him for small items from the house, which were actually of no value and importance. In reality, his brother —who had an independent and the dominating nature — never borrowed anything from him. The dream reflects the man’s desire to appear older and more responsible than his brother. In real life everyone in the house seemed to rely on the younger brother for advice and decision-making. Inferiority complex was the cause of such a dream.
