More famous as Chaiyya Chaiyya man, Sukhwinder Singh, is now the most expensive and appreciated singer in Bollywood.

Sukhwinder got training from Balwantrai Jaswal. A well-known singer in Punjab guided him but most of his learning has occurred by listening music. His first stage performance was at the age of 8 when he sang the Lata Mangeshkar’s song Sa ….ga re mere sang mere saajna.

Everybody appreciated his first effort in Aaja Sanam. Then there was no looking back. He performed with many music composers after that. His list of hit songs include Chaiyya Chaiyya (Dil se), Jise tu na mila (Refugee), Pagdi sambhal jatta, Dil se niklegi, Kasam tumko wattan (all from The Legend of Bhagat Singh), Aaja sanam (Khilaaf), Dholna (Thakshak), Ghanan Ghanan (Lagaan), Mujhe choo le, Kambakht ishq, Rut Aa Gaye Re (1947 – Earth), Ishq Bina (Taal) etc.

Dil Se was his second major hit. The music was given by A R. Rahman. At that time Rahman was looking for something new so he used Sukhwinder’s voice for making the unforgettable Chaiyya chaiyya.
Sukhwinder owes a large part of his success to Rahman, who gave him chance to perform for many of his songs. Rahman and Sukhwinder together are working on many projects. Apart from his work with Rahman, he is also engaged in a many other projects. He is working with music director Sandeep Chowta. Apart from film music he is working on two non-film albums, which will be released soon.

Sukhwinder was in London from where he released a Punjabi album called Munda Southhall Da with T– Series and came to collect an award and decided to stay back. He joined Laxmikant Pyarelal’s troupe and quickly became a music arranger. Then as with Hindi film actors, he went looking for work to South India and did a film, Rakshagan.
His efforts brought him a chance as he got a break in a film called Khilaaf in which he sang a hit song Aa ja sanam.
