Dream Theme

Dreaming of wool
Vinaya Katoch Manhas

DREAMS of wool are very uncommon, thus an in-depth analysis of such a dream becomes slightly difficult. Dreams of wool are mostly related to some particularly experience but in some rare cases the characteristics of wool, such as softness, warmth or coarseness, could be portrayed in such dreams.

According to Indian thought, should you dream of buying or selling wool, then it portends good fortune. You shall gain wealth and property. Generally the occurrence of wool in dreams is taken as a good omen.

As per western thought, to see wool in your dreams means that you shall get opportunities to further your interests, personal or professional. Seeing soiled or dirty wool, foretells that the people that you work with shall not agree with your principles.

As per psychologists, dreams of wool have to be analysed in terms of the characteristics that it represents, i.e. warmth and protectiveness. It in certain cases it can also represent the gentle warmth of motherhood and the tender feelings of love and gentleness. The colour of the wool, too, is important in this context. To see yourself knitting something means that you are working on a relationship or that you are on the verge of creating something that has begun to take shape in your mind. This could also mean the beginning of a new relationship. To be pulling out wool from a sweater means that you are reconsidering something that you had been working on. This could be the importance or longevity of a particular relationship.

A 49-year-old woman would often dream that she was wearing a sweater with a hood attached to it. Either a bird or an animal such as a dog or a cat or maybe even a child would be walking behind her, unravelling the sweater and forming a ball of the wool. She would not realise this until it was nearly half undone. On analysis it was found that the reason for this dream lay in her doubts about the success of her marriage. As her personality and that of her husband were poles apart and they kept having arguments, she would often wonder whether she had made the right decision by marrying him. Such thoughts would bring with them a feeling of helplessness, as she did not believe in divorce or leading separate lives. Thus her inability to reach any satisfactory conclusions gave rise to a feeling of insecurity regarding her marriage, and this made her want to undo the relationship.
