New Delhi, October 14
Indian Airlines defeated Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) by 15 runs in a thrilling title contest of the N N Mohan Memorial All-India Cricket Tournament at the Mohan Meakins ground, Ghaziabad.

Indian Airlines received a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while ONGC pocketed Rs 25,000. Mr Hemant Mohan, managing director of Mohan Meakins, gave away the prizes. Former Test player Madan Lal, who is the organising secretary of the tournament, Anil Mathur, Vijay Chopra, Rakesh Kaushal, Mukeem Khan and Rajender Madan were also present.

ONGC won the toss and elected to field. But their move back-fired as Ritender Singh Sodhi and R R Parida sent the

ONGC fielders on a leather hunt, and their 113-run fourth-wicket partnership helped Indian Airlines post a handsome total of 283 for 7 in the allotted 45 overs.

Ritender Singh Sodhi blasted a quicksilver century knock of 120 off 115 balls with five fours and five sixes while Parida hit 59 with five boundaries.

India No 7 Jasjeet Singh of Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) won the Indian Golf Union categorised Jaypee Open Amateurs Golf Tournament at the Jaypee Greens golf resort in Noida. Jasjeet putted brilliantly to ward off the challenge of leader Keshav Misra of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).

He shot two under in the final round and charged the last holes by making birdies on 9,11,15, 17 and 18. This was Jasjeet Singh's second big victory in the amateur circuit, having earlier won the tournament in Chandigarh. However, it was not a fault-free game with bogeys on 7,13 and 14. Jasjeet shot a total of one over 289 in four rounds to leave Vikrant Chopra at the second spot. The final day was a disappointing one for Keshav Misra, who played three over 75 and with a gross score of 294 slipped to the third position. Keshav made birdies on holes 2,4 and 17, but a bogey on hole 5 and a double bogey on holes 1 and 14 sealed any possible victory chance for him.
