Students educated on water-borne diseases

Preventive measures for water-borne diseases were highlighted by Dr Anil Garg, Medical Officer, Civil Hospital, Mani Majra, during his talk at the ongoing NSS camp being organised by the Government College of Education, Sector 20, here today.

He educated the campers on the chlorination of water and importance of breast-feeding. This was followed by a talk on the transmission of blood-transmitted diseases through various vectors like transfusion.

Dr Sapna Nanda, programme officer, emphasised on prevention and dietary management for water-borne diseases.

A drive for cleanliness of the campus was carried out in the afternoon which was followed by a cultural programme.

DAV paddlers win laurels

Mahima and Nadia Saini of DAV Public School, Sector 8, cornered glory for their school when they captured the below 14 and below 16 girls titles in the individual event of the CBSE Cluster XI Table Tennis tournament which concluded here today. Ramanpreet Kaur of Ajit Karam Singh International Public School, Sector 41, was the proud winner of below 19 girls section title.

In the boys section, Prateek Gupta and Nitish Rana clinched the below 14 and 16 boys section titles respectively, while Manikant of DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, claimed the below 19 section title.

Earlier Mr Suraj Prakash Sethi, Joint Secretary (affiliation), CBSE, New Delhi, was the chief guest and he gave away prizes to the winners. Justice AL Bahri, Chairman, Local Management Committee, presided over the function. Ms Sarita Manuja, Principal of the host school, congratulated the winners and thanked the CBSE for allotting this event to them.

Skating meet: The skaters of Kailash Bahl DAV Centenary School, Sector 7, stole the limelight in the second CBSE National Skating (speed event) championship which concluded last evening at DAV Public School, Sector 7, Faridabad. KBDAV School skaters won five medals: Shivam Thakur (gold), Jyotika Bhagat (gold), Manjeet Singh (silver), Mehak Paul (bronze) and Amber Gill (bronze). KBDAV also won the overall trophy for the second consecutive year. There were 1101 participants drawn from 216 affiliated schools in the above meet.

The prizes were given by a former CBI Director, Mr Joginder Singh. Mr Madhu Bahl, appreciated the fine achievements of the school students and said the winners could be suitably honoured.

Cricket tourney: Panchkula prevailed upon Panipat by 70 runs in the opening match of the Haryana Inter-District Cricket Championship in the 17 age group (Rajinder Goel Trophy) played today at Panipat. According to reports reaching here, Panchkula scored 237 runs for the loss of seven wickets while Panipat were bundled out for 164 runs in 30 overs. Now Panchkula will play its next match at Yamunanagar on October 15.

Brief scores: Panchkula: 234 runs for seven in 35 overs (Nitin Rathee 35, Karan Sharma 67, Sunny Sharma 29, Vikas Khurana 23, Aishwarya 3 for 49, Dilbagh Malik 2 for 39).

Panipat: 164 runs all out in 30 overs (Ravinder 37, Sachin 19, Satish 17, Sunny Sharma 2 for 28, Amit Saini 2 for 29, Vaneet Goel 2 for 28).

Ball badminton: The MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36 and DAV College, Sector 10, emerged winners respectively in the women’s and men section of the Chandigarh State Senior Ball Badminton Championship which concluded here this evening at St Joseph’s School, Sector 44. In the women’s final, MCM eves outplayed St Joseph’s Coaching Centre 29-28, 29-21 while in men, DAV boys defeated SGGS College, Sector 26 by 29-19, 29-14.

CGA pitch & putt contest

Chandigarh, October 14
The CGA Golf Range is organising a pitch and putt competition on October 20 at the CGA Golf Range. The competition will start at 8 a.m.

Entries may be sent to Mr Jesse Grewal, Director, Hero Honda Golf Academy by October 18.

Competition will be held in three categories — juniors, ladies and gentlemen. The competition is open to CGR members only, according to the CGA President, Mr D.P. Azad.
