“People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I do not believe in circumstances. The people, who get on in this world, are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want and if they cannot find them, make them,” so said G.B.Shaw. GMT Public School was established in the memory of Late Sardarni Gur Kaur Thind, mother of the director of the school, Mr S.G.S. Thind. Though an illiterate herself, she always showed a deep desire for quality education for children. Hence her very pious spirit and dedicated and devotional soul is the inspiration and backbone of this school. It was started in April, 1995 with a sense of great responsibility keeping in view the educational requirements of the locality. Governed by the educated elite, it endeavours to bring out the best in each child, laying more emphasis on ‘Early Childhood Education Programme’, for all round development of the child and encouraging certain fundamental vital activities i.e. physical-perfection, vital-enrichment, mental-development and refinement and Spiritual-enlightenment and elevation, leading the child to the unbound existence.

The purposes of the institution is to provide intrinsic values and virtues and establish a uniqueness. The primary purpose is to provide such an education that develops an all-round personality of the child as the educational process is not merely an activity but infact a journey towards perfection.

The institution is spread over 5 acres of land. The rooms are spacious and airy which makes the children comfortable. The lush green lawns add to the beauty to the institution. Keeping in view the requirement of the tiny-tots, the new kindergarten block is under completion and will be completed by December 2002. The unique feature of the block is the basic necessities of the children will be provided to them on a very large scale with latest audio-visual techniques as these students are the base of the institution.

The school is recently affiliated to senior secondary level of CBSE Board. It would be sending a batch of 19 students of commerce and non-medical stream for the plus two examination for the first time in the year 2003. It hopes to get excellent results for the matric results have been 100%. The school has provided the students with ‘hostel’ accommodation for boys and girls, which provides nutritious diet and homely environment to the students. The hostel students are taken out for excursions once a month.

The notable feature is that a free dispensary is being run from within school premises .The dispensary provides free medical aid to students and also to the poor people of the surrounding areas. The extension branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce is catering to the needs of the students, staff as well as the parents. The fully equipped laboratories, well maintained library helps in multiplying knowledge. The latest computer education is provided to the students from 1st standard onwards and upgradation to +2 level.

The school is on National Highway No. 1. It has a fleet of 9 buses and has a van to fetch and leave the students.

Humanity is the best religion

On Religion

  • Mrs Heema JassalCan anyone imagine life without its basis in religion? Ms Heema Jassal can’t? She is a staunch believer in God and thinks religion is an integral part of a human being’s life. Every morning God’s name is to be taken before stating school’s activity. It does not matter which God. She, as well as her teachers and students, tell a story with a moral in it on the intercom after the morning prayers are said. The class teachers take back a feed back. Besides each teacher is instructed to talk to students for the first five minutes of the first period asking them to do some kind and helpful deed each day. The students recount their good deeds done the next day to the teacher. Every Saturday the House Teachers also organise activities like ‘extempore speeches’, debates, declamation on topics that could start a deep thought process and make them ponder on importance of good values and become God fearing

On Education

  • Education does not mean providing ‘bookish knowledge’ and stunt the growth of the children. Rather I would think that true education means focussing on bringing about excellence not only in academics, but set high standards of sports and cultural accomplishments. For this Ms Heema Jassal creates an atmosphere for innovation and creation. Education means making of a ‘complete person’ with compassion, tolerance, self discipline, to develop a feeling of equality and realism

On Discipline

  • The discipline is the key to success which enables us to secure a reputation in society. Discipline is the essence of life of every one who wants to be someone in life. I can maintain discipline with the help of my teachers. I tell my teachers that students watch every gesture of teachers with microscopic eyes. So the teachers have to be living examples. Most of the students have been with us from lower K.G., the students have a clear understanding of how they are supposed to behave in the school. Corporal punishment is stictly no-no.

Poems by students

Our elders

Elders are the pillars of the home

The teaches more to us than our mom

of the whole family they are the holders

Nothing good can be done without the

help of their shoulders.

Their importance is even more than money

As their teachings are sweet like honey

they are more precious even than gold

Without the help of them nothing can be mould

To them we should give respect

Because this is the main thing from

us which they expect

In one minute they can open difficult

and deep doors

We should always have faith on their

decisions, for sure.

Kiranjot Kaur, class IX

Bubble

Man is a bubble

on the surface of water

It bursts, it sinks, it comes up, if floats again

Neither the ocean can swallow it,

nor history break it

On the waves of time

he is ever floating

like a water bubble

the eternal man

Manisha Pathak, class XI - Com.

Refuge

I have been wandering in space,

among the stars and planets

like a beam of light

caught in dust and smoke

I have been wandering for ages

like a tumbling moment torn out of time

I found my homeland,

but continued to wonder looking for the culey

When I found the alley

I wandered around

looking for the house

I have now lost myself

wandering the expense

of your body and soul

Aman Grewal, class XI (N. Medical)

Flowers

Flowers are sweet,

Flowers are beautiful,

Flowers are lovely,

Flowers are special

Flowers can bloom,

Flowers can dry.

Flowers give us courage

that we can also try

I wish that I can also be a flower

and my fragrance could reach up to the tower

Shamli Jain, class VI-A

What is love?

Love is a journey, not destination

we are like a train ad life is like a station

Everybody once in his life sits in this

train and goes miles away

Sometimes sad and sometimes gay

Indeed, the journey is too long

but love lasts life long

have blossoms like flower

it is a bond that will last forever
