GMCH proposes fellowship
for Bangladesh doctors Chandigarh, September 25 The Medical Superintendent of the GMCH, Dr Raj Bahadur, who was the workshop director, informed that seeing the keenness of the doctors , a training fellowship programme in spine injury could be started for them here. “It is after holding due consultations with the UT Administration that we will work out the training programme for the members of the Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society,” he informed. After holding of the first ever international workshop on spinal surgery in Bangladesh, the doctors in that country are keen to start a spinal injury surgery unit at the National Institute of Traumatology and Rehabilitation (NITOR), Dhaka. Dr Raj Bahadur, said that as compared to Bangladesh, India was far more advanced in the medical field. He added that all the equipment for spinal surgery had to be carried from here, as sophisticated machinery was still not available there. “ We saw that in Bangladesh every patient has to bear the entire cost of surgery at government hospitals, as he is asked to get the operation material from the market’,” he added. He added that even the Bangladeshi doctors admitted that India was at least 20 years ahead of their Bangladesh in the medical field. The Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society (BOS), conferred its life membership to Dr Raj Bahadur. A special award of recognition was given to the other team members from the GMCH, including Dr Raj Bahadur, Dr Sudhir Garg, Reader, department of Orthopaedics, Ms Palwinder Kaur from the nursing department and Dr Salil Saha. Dr Raj Bahadur, said more than a 100 delegates attended the workshop which was organised from September 20 to 23. He further said that two sessions were held at the workshop to discuss the recent trends in management of spinal injuries. In addition, a video demonstration of operative procedures on spine was held and a hands on training was imparted to the delegates using bone models. The operative session consisted of four patients of spinal injuries and infections, of which a live demonstration was held. |

Health camp at Senior Citizens Home Chandigarh, September 25 Brig M.L. Kataria (retd) showed the Governor the ambulance van which come every Wednesday, carrying medical team that examines its 30 inmates. The van had equipment for conducting pathological tests. He was shown the X-ray room in the home and he met consultants and doctors who visit the home. Mr G.K Marwah, Secretary, Social Welfare Department, told the Governor that the kitchen of the home was jointly run by the inmates. |
460 donate blood Chandigarh, September 25 The camp was inaugurated by the assistant manager, SBI, Mr S.S. Gupta, and was presided over by the Chief Engineer, UT, Mr Puranjit Singh. Certificates and mementoes were given to star blood donors by the Senior Programme Officer of the Commonwealth Youth Programme, Mr Hassan Shaifu. The Principal, Dr Baljeet S Kapoor, highlighted the various schemes being implemented for the welfare of students and informed that yoga classes were being introduced shortly. |
Boxing championship results Chandigarh, September 25 In other matches of the day, in the girls’ section, in Pinweight category, Manju Bala of BCC, Sector 23, secured the first place, while Kamlesh got the second place. Harwinder Kaur was placed third. In the light flyweight category, Harpreet Kaur clinched the first place, while Kapila was adjudged second. In the flyweight category, Neha Sharma was first, while in the featherweight and middleweight sections, Baljeet and Meena were declared first each. Boys section results: Tribune school victorious: Tribune Model School, Sector 29, surged ahead in the Chandigarh Sub-junior Football trophy tie played here today at Football Stadium in Sector 17. They overpowered Guru Teg Bahadur School, Sector 15, by 2-0. In other matches of the day, St Soldier’s International School, Sector 28, defeated Goverment Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23, by five goals to nil via tie-breaker. The normal time score was 2-2, while the half-time score was 2-0 in favour of GMSSS-23. In another match, Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, outplayed Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, by two goals to nil. Arif and Munjal scored one goal each. Roller hockey coach: Harpreet Singh, a roller hockey coach and working with AG, Punjab, has been appointed the coach of the Indian women’s roller hockey team which will take part in the World Roller Hockey Championship to be held at Portugal from October 6 to 12. Earlier also, Harpreet had been to various Asian Roller hockey meets as coach of the Indian women
