Ranga's Toon Tales

Danny Kaye

ONE of the most famous stars of Hollywood, Danny Kaye, was in Delhi some years back to visit India and help destitute children on behalf of the UNICEF. He held a Press conference in a five-star hotel where he regaled the audience with his inimitable gestures. Wearing a hat and dressed informally, Danny Kaye was an instantaneous hit.

As the conference ended, a sketch of his was ready to greet him and as he looked at it, he was immensely delighted. He went on speaking ecstatically about his experiences in India, ignoring my request to autograph the drawing. It was several minutes before he cut short his talk and listened to my request. He said, "I look pretty" and signed his sketch.
