SHAAN started singing at a young age. He performed for television serials, children’s songs for feature films. Soon he found himself signing a contract and doing his own pop album.

His father Manas Mukherjee, who passed away in 1986, was a music composer. He composed music for Hindi films like Shaayad and Albert Pinto ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai in the eighties.

This young singer is a self-taught musician. He has received no formal training. Shaan also has the talent to compose the lyrics of the songs.

Shaan made his first appearance in the song ‘Q - Funk’ from the album Oorja. He is the brother of Sagarika, a well-known pop artist. After Oorja he taught love to everyone with the release of his second album but first solo album Loveology. Tanha Dil, Bhool Ja, are the songs of this album which became famous. Shaan himself wrote the lyrics of the songs. The audience appreciated both songs.

Musu Musu from the film Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi was his major commercial hit. It also brought him several offers from leading music directors like A. R. Rahman, Anu Malik. Woh Pehli Baar was another major success. Shaan also remixed some songs. He remixed Hum Bewafa and the Roop Inka Mastana.

In his album Tanha dil, Shaan has written the lyrics for all eight songs and even composed four of the songs. His songs are romantic, energetic and light-hearted. This is the reason why everybody likes his songs.

His memorable songs are Bus itna sa khwab hai, Nikamma kiya is dil ne for the film ‘Kyaa dil ne kahaa’ and Koi kahe kahta rahe, Woh ladki hain kahan from ‘Dil chahta hai,’ O re kanchi from ‘Asoka.’ He has also recorded songs for film Kaante

Shaan has also bagged many music awards. He was declared the Favourite Indian Artiste — pop for his song "Tanha dil", at the inaugural MTV Asia awards (2002) function in Singapore. He also won Screen Videocon’s Best Pop Album award in 2000 for the same song.
