Ranga's Toon Tales

Barbara Cartland

THE 86-year-‘young’ barbara Cartland was in Delhi in 1988 for the opening of a beauty and health clinic at Surajkund, Haryana.

An internationally known novelist, whose novels have been sold in all corners of the world was staying in a five-star hotel in Delhi with her stepson. Her novels have been translated into several languages and are bestsellers. A household name in the English speaking world, Barbara Cartland is a believer in spiritualism.

Gorgeously dressed, Barbara Cartland emerged from her room in her hotel to address a gathering of mediapersons in one of the main halls of the hotel. An attractive personality, with glittering jewellery spread from her neck to her arms, Barbara Cartland spoke well. She made many friends and could reach out to the audience. It was here that I managed to make a quick sketch of her. She readily signed with the word ‘love’ followed by her inimitable signature.
