25 participate in special camp

Chandigarh, August 1
Twenty-five children from the area participated in a one-day special camp for children organised at the RCH office building, Dhanas. Dr Neena Goyal addressed the participants. Dr Goyal gave tips to the mothers about the precautions to be taken for the prevention of cholera and diarrhoea.

The Indian Council of Social Welfare Chandigarh Chapter is running a reproductive and child health services programme in the area of Dhanas and its adjoining colonies — Aman,Chaman, Ambedkar, Housing Board and Milk Colonies.

The project is funded by SOSVA North Chandigarh to create health awareness in society to achieve the “healthy mother and healthy child target’’. Dr Sangeeta Jund and Ms Mamta Narwal, project coordinators, had a talk with children and an interactive session with the visiting doctor as well as RCH social workers was held. Dr Nisha Dhawan delivered lectures on childcare.

AFWWA’s health screening camp

Chandigarh, August 1
A month-long programme for ladies health screening was launched at the Air Force Family Welfare Centre in Sector 47 here today under the aegis of the Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Local), AF Station, Chandigarh.

The health camp, inaugurated by Mrs A. Joseph, President, AFWWA (Local), will continue till August 31.

A large number of women from the Air Force families living in Sectors 31 and 47 attended the camp.

The programme aimed at health screening of AFWWA members for diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, coronary, artery diseases, obesity, biochemical abnormalities, cancer of breast and cervix and dental diseases.

A team of doctors from the Situation Medicare Centre conducted the medical check up. About 50 women got themselves examined on the first day itself.

19 constables promoted

Chandigarh, August 1
The Chandigarh police today promoted 19 constables to the rank of Head Constable on the recommendations of the Department Promotion Committee at a meeting chaired by DIG Ajay Kashyap. Six constables were ignored in the promotion list due to their indifferent service records, said an official release of the UT Police Department today.
