Kalmadi hails Malhotra's appointment
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, July 18
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi on Thursday hailed the appointment of senior vice-president of the IOA Vijay Kumar Malhotra as the Chairman of the recently revived All-India Council of Sports (AICS).

Mr Kalmadi said with Mr Malhotra, who is also the president of the Archery Association of India, at the helm, the AICS was bound to do a wonderful job in giving a big boost to sports in the country.

Mr Kalmadi felt that the revival of the AICS would give a new impetus for the growth of sports in the country as there was space for every one to work together—the Sports Ministry, the AICS, the IOA and the Sports Authority of India—for the betterment of Indian sports.

The AICS was once the supreme body of Indian sports before the Sports Ministry was created after the 1982 Asian Games in Delhi. The AICS has been revived mainly as an advisory body to the Sports Ministry, though Mr Malhotra, as Chairman of the AICS, enjoys a Cabinet rank.
